In the world of smartphones Android and iOS are the most popular mobile platforms and one forgets the underdog. The Meego running Nokia N9 is one such.
Nokia may have jumped ship and have abandoned both Symbian and Meego. Windows Phone might Nokia’s priority but Nokia still keeps it’s promise of delivering updates to their phones with abandoned Os. The Symbian flagship Nokia Pureview 808 got an update just after a week of release, fixing some annoying bugs. Nokia unlike any other manufacturer. dumps it’s old devices in favor of new ones but delivers important updates if necessary. Old devices such as Nokia N8, C7 and C6 got updated to Symbian Belle.
Nokia N9 was highly an acclaimed device and the design was the best ever on a phone. The N9 was Nokia’s last Meego running device when Nokia abandoned Meego in favor of Microsoft Windows Phone. It was rumored that Nokia is cooking Pr1.3 and Pr1.4 updates for the N9. Nokia said it would be supporting it for sometime and we are happy they are keeping their promises.
Other manufacturers like Samsung should learn a thing or two from Nokia on supporting devices, recently Samsung announced it won’t be supporting it’s first flagship android phone Samsung Galaxy S, deeming it’s hardware not powerful enough to run Ice Cream Sandwich while it’s step brother the Nexus S was running it fine and will also be getting a Jelly Bean update as well. It just puts others to shame that Nokia N9 has gotten 3 major updates and the fourth is one it’s way and the others just fail to support their devices. Not many devices are supported like that and in this case Nokia supporting even after abandoning the Os is really something and we thank Nokia for that.
The update version number is v40.2012.21-3.001.19 and its size is 204.8 MB
