At the Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary Event, a new Metal Gear title was announced for smartphones. This new title is known as Metal Gear Solid Social Ops for GREE (No, that is not a typing error for ‘FREE’). This announcement was made alongside the announcement of a MGS movie and a new game
GREE is a leading mobile social gaming network that operates worldwide. Social Ops is being created for and by GREE with it’s Unity Engine and it will be fully 3D. Konami is only planning the game, and has no hand in it’s creation.
Yoshikazu Tanaka, the CEO of GREE, announced this personally at the event. There is no exact release date, but Tanaka-san confirmed that the game will come out somewhere between Fall and Winter this year.
Social Ops will let you relive the stories of the past Metal Gear Solid titles. The game will make use of cards for you to engage in battle. Also, Mother Base development aspects will be included, like in the PSP title, Peacewalker.
A trailer was shown at the event, but has not been publicly released. No other details have been provided. The game will be playable at this years Tokyo Game Show.
