Microsoft showcased its first ever tablet, Surface, a few months ago. It won over people with its industrial yet classy looking design and Microsoft’ attention to detail. It’s a tablet that will be the standard by which other Windows 8 tablets will be compared. It’s the Nexus of Windows 8 and it shows how serious Microsoft is about the mobile aspect of its newest OS.
What Microsoft didn’t unveil back then was the price. However now on their website the price for Surface with Windows RT is now unveiled. It will come in two storage options, 32GB and 64GB. Price for 32GB starts at $499 without the keyboard dock (Touch Cover) and up to $699 for the 64GB version with keyboard dock. Two additional accessories available separately is the Touch Cover and the Type Cover for $119 and $129 respectively.
At its base price the Surface with Windows RT is a full $100 cheaper than the new iPad which sells for $499 but for 16GB only. The tablet is up for preorder as well with availability on the 26th of October. At $499 it’s not the cheapest tablets out there, but for what it offers Microsoft has priced it correctly. Let’s hope they can advertise it just as well and make it a good platform for developers to invest in. Only then will Surface with Windows RT be a serious competitor to the iPad.
