How To: Get Your Mac Ready For Mac OS X Lion

Mac OS X Lion is due in a few hours and you must be wondering if your Mac is ready for an update, well no worries just use the following guide to get your Mac in pristine condition for Loin.

There should be two things you should look out for, your Mac’s hardware and software:

Hardware:

  • Make sure your Mac has dual core processor, 2GB of RAM and 10GB of free space on your hardrive. Do note these are recommended specs, a quick single core processor with less RAM will work but your Mac will face hiccups running the new OS.
  • Loin has a few features like the multi-touch gesture support which requires a multi-touch trackpad or mouse like Apple’s Mac TrackPad (pictured below) or Magic Mouse.

  • Check for system updates and make sure you’re on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10.6.6 is the bare minimum.
  • Clear up some disk space so you have some extra headroom.
  • Check app compatibility so you don’t run into problems later, an example is of PowerPC apps which will stop working in Loin.
  • Create a backup of your whole system, you know why.
  • Create backup disks in-case your hard drive runs into any problems.

That’s it guys! And good luck!
