How To: Install CyanogenMod 7.1 Alpha 3 On HP TouchPad

Looks like the HP TouchPad Android scene is picking up it’s pace, after CyanogenMod created the initial Android 2.3 Gingerbread port two more Alphas have popped up offering some much need improvements. Check out the guide on how to install CyanogenMod 7.1 Alpha 3 on your HP TouchPad after the break.

The release comes from the popular Android modding site RootWiki, this release is an update to the official CyanogenMod 7.1 ROM for the HP TouchPad. The full changelog is below:

* Last prominent form of “sleep of death” fixed
* Webkit backing store(smoother scrolling)
* Minor improvements to 2D/3D performance in some apps
* Bluetooth DPad/arrows do not rotate with screen
* Battery stats now available to Android
* Serial# now populated
* Shorter hostname as a result of serial#
* General wifi fixes
* Preliminary Touchpad 4G support(no radio)
* Status bar should take less resources after an app goes full screen
* Possible fix for A2DP and wifi interference
* Possible fix for SD card not mounting
* Camera FPS improved but stillnonfunctional

Use this guide only if you already have one of the previous Alphas installed, if you don’t install them first. Now lets get started on the guide itself.

Step 1. Download the update file (named update-cm-7.1.0-tenderloin-a3-fullofbugs-signed.zip) from the official thread here. You can either download it on your PC and transfer it to your TouchPad or download it directly on the TouchPad, it doesn’t really matter. Make sure to remember where you placed the file.

Step 2. Now hold the power button and wait till the popup comes up, select reboot and then reboot into recovery.

Step 3. Now your TouchPad should have booted into ClockWork recovery. Navigate to install zip from SDcard, then choose zip from SDcard and then select the file we downloaded earlier.

Step 4. After CyanogenMod 7.1 Alpha 3 is flashed on your TouchPad select reboot system now.
