  • Gmail for iOS makes a return

    Gmail for iOS returns! An official Gmail E-Mail client was released on the App store a couple of weeks ago and was shortly removed from the store following the release due to a serious issue with the client. But the official Gmail client has made a triumphant return on the official Apple App store free of cost to any and all owning a compatible iDevice.

    gmail for ios

    The client is iOS 4 certified (No word as to whether the app will run or is stable on iOS 5 but the app does a good job of staying simple, much like Facebook it offers a slide in and slide out to the left side interface letting you choose between Inbox / Spam and other folders in your Gmail account with ease, the app is relatively simple looking and won’t turn many heads but maybe we can hope to brighten it up a bit with a future update :D .

    Google has recommended that if you are on the previous version it is highly recommended you uninstall / delete that version before signing onto this version. The App does a great job of giving you push notification and badges to let you know about any unread / new mail you may have missed and especially if you are one of those people who prefers Gmail to other Email address providers.

    The official link to the app via browser is available here

    Android Pakistan has reported that the Samsung Galaxy S II will be releasing in Pakistan for just Rs. 55,000 ($640), which is a lot less than what was expected and what importers are charging. The site also reports that customers would get a complementary “gift” with their Galaxy S IIs, we don’t know what this gift is but our bet is on some first party accessories for the phone.

    Rumors were that Pakistan’s version will be the crippled version i.e Super LCD screen instead of a SAMOLED display and a weaker processor but be assured that the Pakistani version will be the buffed up i9100.

Once the IPSW has been detected press “Jailbreak” and continue on to Step 2.

    Step 2.

    Now connect your device and put it in DFU mode before proceeding to DFU your device simply connect your device to the PC, hold down the home and the power button together for 10 seconds, after the 10th second remove your finger from the power button and keep pressing the home button until you see a bubble prompt in Windows showing you the DFU device. Now press Next in redsn0w

    Step 3.

    Over here you have to make sure “Install Cydia is ticked and press Next again and voila your device is now Jailbroken. Your iDevice will now restart a couple or so times and then you will be taken back to your homescreen upon which you will be welcomed back with a new iOS version.

    If you prefer keeping your device on a semi tethered jailbreak this is where the guide ends for you but if you want the semi-tethered jailbreak simply see how to do so below:

    Semi-Tethered jailbreak

    Download Semi-Tether from Cydia by doing the following

    2 . Choose add and type the following without the quotation marks ( “ “ ) “thebigboss.org/semitether” since http:// prefix is already added you don’t need to enter that.
    3 . now Cydia will download and install the new source and on the bottom center will give you the option of “Return to Cydia” tap on it.
    4 . You are now back at the main screen of Cydia now go to Search and type “SemiTether and press the top result.
    5 . Now simply download and install this package and your iDevice will do a reboot and you now have a semi-tethered device.

    Here are the catch(s) of a Semi Tethered Jailbreak:

    2 . You can use all pre-installed apps except some important ones such as Safari and Mail.
    3 . Phone will reboot to your home screen.
    4 . You can’t use Cydia or any other Jailbreak app until you do a tethered boot from redsn0w.

    I hope this guide was helpful to you and if you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below.

  • How To: Fix Error 3194 in iTunes When Restoring to Stock/Custom Firmware

    Quite a few members of the Jailbreaking community backup their SHSH blobs to Cydia’s server for downgrading purposes ever since the release of iOS 4.3.3, the people who have edited their hosts file to point to Cydia’s server instead of Apple’s have started to face problems even while upgrading to the newer firmware. So if you’ve edited your hosts file that way you wont be able to restore to a Custom or even a stock firmware, iTunes will just show you the error 3194. This is the message you’ll see.

    [box] The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).[/box]

    This problem is apparently caused due to a bug at Cydia’s back end and should be fixed soon. However, until that happens you can fix this problem in just a few simple steps. Now, to do this you simply have to remove the reference Cydia caching server from your hosts file and this is how you do it:

    * Download TinyUmbrella from http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com
    * Launch it.
    * Click on the “Advanced” tab.
    * Uncheck “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit”
    * Click on “Apply Changes”
    * Reboot your PC/Mac.

    You should now be able to successfully restore or update your iPhone to iOS 4.3.3 firmware.

  • Add More Features To Your Lockscreen With Slider Enhancer

    I posted a tweak earlier which shows how to change the text in “Slide to Unlock” to something of your choosing, but now a tweak is out which lets you do that and more. With Slide Enhancer you can not only add custom text to your Slide to Unlock you can make it display battery life, IP Address, Wi-Fi Network name, Clock, Free RAM and even the Battery Percentage. The tweak is relatively simple and easy to install and really is useful to those who wish to make the most use of it.

    Step 1.

    Go to Cydia and in Search type the following without the quotation marks ( “  ” )

    com.app1enerd.sliderenhancer

    or you can just look at the screenshot below:

    You should see a single result bearing the icon of a yellow power drill, tap on this.

    Step 2.

    Like the other tweaks installation is always easy as pie, all you have to do is tap on install on the top right of the screen and confirm afterwards and your tweak will start to install AND download. Once it has been installed on your device successfully you will be told to “Restart Springboard” tap on this command to make your device do a soft reset back to your lock screen.

    Step 3.

    Unlike my last tweak this won’t work if you simply double tap on Slide to Unlock, for this you have to navigate to your settings.app and scroll down till you find Slider Enhancer.

    Choose what you want from there and voila! All the options at your disposal will be before you. As shown in the screen below.

    This tweak works on any and all devices above iOS 4 and it also supports iOS 5. Do leave a a comment mentioning whether you found this tweak to be helpful or not.

  • How To: Run Windows Phone On Your Mobile Browser

    So when you buy a smartphone it’s based on a specific platform like Android, iOS, Windows Phone or even WebOS but humans tend to get bored and want to try something new. In this case if you want to try Windows Phone right now you can through Microsoft’s own browser emulator.

    Windows Phone is a new but very interesting platform, maybe you have seen it running on a friends phone and want to try it out. Well you can for FREE just sitting in your room. Just follow the simple steps below.

  • Make Your Scrolling Easier With Auto Scroller

    Auto Scroller is a handy tweak similar to the tweaks I posted earlier but this is also a good alternative to the original tweak. Auto Scroller lets you roll your screen up / down with the press of a button so that you only need one hand to navigate your iDevice while surfing the net, reading iBooks or doing something else that may require your second hand for making the page go up / down. While some people might call this a lazy mans tweak you will be grateful for it when you are using your iPod / iPhone when you are most comfortable and will hate having to take out the other hand to adjust the page to your preference.

    Step 1.

    Go to Cydia and in Search type the following without the quotation marks (” “)

    jp.r-plus.autoscroller

    and click on the single icon bearing the yellow power drill icon.

    Step 2.

    Once again proceed by tapping Install followed by Confirm on the top right of the screen. and wait for Cydia to download and Install the tweak upon which it will ask you to “Restart Springboard” to do a soft reset to your lock screen. Tap on “Restart Springboard” To continue.

    Step 3.

    Head into your settings.app and search for Auto Scroller as shown below, to make this tweak work you will need Activator installed prior which should already be installed if you followed my previous tweak guide Here.

    Now in Auto Scroller simply assign the button or action to make the page scroll up or down at the scrolling speed that suits you best. and you are all done, I am using the Volume Up and Down keys for the Scroll Up and Down navigation as I found to be the best suited for my needs.

    You can now be 20% more lazy with this handy tweak for when you need to make use of your second hand in using your iDevice, now all we need is a guide on how to make scrolling controlled by Siri and we can go completely handsfree while reading iBooks or surfing the internet.

    Do leave a comment below and tell me if you found this tweak to be helpful or not and what you plan on using this tweak for.
