  • 5 Neat Things You Can Do With Your Old Cell Phone

So you got a brand new Samsung Galaxy S III, Sony Xperia Z, Lumia 920 or any other new smartphone and don’t know what to do with your older and outdated piece of plastic? Well now you won’t have to think hard as we’ll cover 5 neat things to with your old cell phone in this article.

    1. Install a ROM

If your older phone ran Android or Windows Mobile OS then you’re in luck as most of them tend to have excellent third party developer support. Forums like XDA-Developers house thousands of ROM developers and cooks working on the devices they love. Ancient devices like the HTC HD2 which was released initially in 2009 running Windows Mobile is still supported by many developers and was running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean before many of the newer smartphones got it officially.

android rom 570x320 5 Neat Things You Can Do With Your Old Cell Phone

Trust me, when you’ll install a new ROM on your phone you’ll be amazed how fast it can be. There’s no feeling like getting more of your money’s worth out of something you considered trash a few minutes ago.

    2. Give it away

Yeah I know you can just sell it on Craigslist and eBay and get a few bucks but where’s the fun in that? Try giving it way to someone who needs it, whether it be a security guard at where you work or a younger sibling. They can probably put it to good use and you’ll get that feeling when you do something good, trust me it’s addicting. You can also donate it to a charity.

If giving away stuff is not your thing then continue on…

    3. Turn it into survival tools

Yeah you read that right. I saw an interesting infographic on Reddit the other day and decided to save it for future use. Maybe some of you can find it of good use. Read it below to learn how to turn your old Nokia, Samsung or Blackberry phones into a cutting tool, signal mirror and more!

neat old cell phone 5 Neat Things You Can Do With Your Old Cell Phone

    4. Use it as a GPS for your car

Buy a car charger and glue (not literally) your phone to your car’s dash, and wallah you have a makeshift GPS. This can be done only if you have a proper smartphone which has GPS functionality, don’t worry though as almost every smartphone does. The app you want to use with your GPS is mostly your choice, they’ll also vary with the OS of your smartphone.

    5. Use it as a hotspot or server

If your older phone has WiFi functionality and runs on Android you can use it as a portable hotspot or low powered server for your house. Apps like Servers Ultimate (Server) and WiFi HotSpot / WiFi Tether (Hotspot) will help you get that done.

If you guys have any more interesting ways your use your old cell phones feel free to mention them in the comments and I’ll add them to this article!

Without a question, the best one in the list. Elegant Themes is known for two things, being extremely inexpensive and having some amazingly unbelievable designs. A year ago it used to be 19.99 dollars for the ENTIRE THEME LIBRARY! Now they’ve increased it to 39 dollars per year since their designs are getting more and more complex. There are no additional charges and the library consists of over 61 amazing themes, they come equipped with the awesome Elegant admin panel called E-Panel. This company is at the top of our list because of their amazing quality and low price. They have a very lively support forum with amazing staff and offer customizations too.

    2. ThemeForest

Premium WordPress Themes and Web Templates ThemeForest 1307802108580 5 Best Theme Developers For WordPress

I think everyone knows about ThemeForest, once used to be a small website with a handful of themes is now a part of Envato. A huge network of amazing designs covering every aspect of internet applications. ThemeForest has some amazing designers hard at work at providing some of the most stunning designs ever seen. Their pricing is different, they charge per theme, since they don’t have a said team and the designers are added almost everyday. Each theme has its own pricing but average to about 40 dollars per theme. Support is awesome as always.

    3. YooTheme

Joomla Templates and Extensions WordPress Themes Stock Icons YOOtheme Blog 1307802208578 5 Best Theme Developers For WordPress

Fairly new to the WordPress scene, YOO designs themes for Joomla. They recently started porting their themes to this powerful platform. They use Warp framework, something YOO cooked up themselves. It makes editing the themes extremely easy. The themes are jaw-droppingly beautiful but they cost more. There are three membership modes. The lowest one costs around 30 dollars and gives one theme. Definitely worth checking out.

    4. RocketTheme

  • How To: Convert 720p 300+ MB Anime Into 90 MB Without Significant Quality Loss

Most of us can begin to run out of space on Hard disk due to very large collection of Anime that is releasing every day. They are usually 300+ MB especially if they are 720p and these are the only versions who are the best quality wise. This tutorial will guide you on how to convert these Animes into a very nice size of about 80-90 MB without major quality loss.

Click on Read More to begin the tutorial.

To begin our encoding lets start first by downloading the encoder that we will use for our encoding. It is totally free so don’t worry.

    Download MiniCoder from links below.

    Installer

    Standalone(No Install)

After installing MiniCoder run it to begin the process. You will be greeted with this screen.

Click on the setting tab to determine the settings we will use for encoding our video. See the screenshot below.

convertanime2 How To: Convert 720p 300+ MB Anime Into 90 MB Without Significant Quality Loss

    1. Video Settings
They are the main source of importance here. Select a suitable bitrate for the video you are encoding. If you encoding 720p Animes then a video bitrate of 500-550 will be good enough.
If you don’t want to manually calculate the bitrate and just want to specify a targeted size that you want, select the file size radio button and enter the file size you want, it should be mentioned that the lower the size the lower the bitrate will be so quality will suffer.
In the quality setting keep it at very high, it will take more time but the quality will be better in the end. Leave the codec setting as x264 as it is the best quality wise.

    2. Pre-Processing Settings
Nothing to change here so leave them. If you want to resize then you can select any size but leaving it is better.

    3. Audio Settings
Keep them as they are in the screenshot above or if you want then you can tinker with them

    4. Post-Processing Settings
Leave them, if you want to remove some noise or sharpen the video then you can change it but it is not recommended.
The last option for subtitles is for embedding subtitles into videos. They will be hard coded into videos. You can select any subtitle file and it supports majority of the subtitle format.

After all these settings are done. Select the options tab and you will get a screen like the one shown below.

    1. In the output settings, specify the output directory where all the converted animes will be saved.

    2. Select priority of process, keep it at normal if you don’t want to use much of the processing power. Keeping it at high will make your PC lag a lot during converting.

    3. Just ignore these options, they are not necessary

Now we are done with the setting. Click on the Input tab to begin the encoding process. Right click anywhere here to get the option of adding or removing files or you can simply drag and drop the files that you want to encode here.

Sit back and enjoy while it converts your anime. It will take about 1 hour to convert a 720p anime on a dual core system, it will be faster on i5 or i7. Below are some comparison shots of the result Decide for yourself.
