PTCL Applies Monthly Data Limit To Its Broadband Packages, Revises Tariff Rates

It seems like our worst nightmare have already started as PTCL has decided to limit the monthly bandwidth of it’s high speed DSL users. It has also decided to increase the price of its Broadband packages.

This is a confirmed rumor from internal sources at PTCL and also ProPakistani has confirmed this news. This new pricing scheme will be effective on 1st August.

According to the new data rates, the student package price has been increased from 879 to 929 rs per month. The simple bundle package which included 1 MB DSL internet, 150 on-net free minutes and unlimited “Keh Do SMS” still retains its original price of 999 rs per month.

But the biggest and most shocking news is that now 4 MB, 6MB and 8MB are no longer unlimited packages. They are still unlimited in another sort of way but you have to pay extra 1000 to get the unlimited packages. The new price rate is as follows:-

    Limited Broadband Packages

    (50GB Download Limit)

    Unlimited Broadband Packages
    4Mbps – Rs. 2000 4Mbps – Rs. 3000
    6Mbps – Rs. 5000 6Mbps – Rs. 6000
    8Mbps – Rs. 7000 8Mbps – Rs. 8000

While 1 MB and 2 MB still remain unlimited and uncapped broadband, this news will surely upset a lot of PTCL customers who brought the high speed DSL in order to get unlimited downloads at high speed. If a user passes the 50 GB download limit, then he will have to pay extra 1000 rs which he will get in his bill.

This is really a bad decision by PTCL and it will make them lose more customers. I was already getting tired of their lack of customer support which really sucked and now this step has put the final nail in the coffin. I am already thinking of switching to a different DSL service provider.

What are your thoughts regarding this news. Do you think this step was necessary or not? What do you suggest is the best Broadband service provider in Pakistan? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Update: The installation chargers have also been increased from 590 rs to 1000 rs.
