  • Killzone: Mercenary – An Exclusive FPS For PS Vita

If you’re one of those who were skeptical to get a Vita because it lacked killer titles, then we’ve got some good news for you.

This year at Gamescom 2012, home turf of one of the subsidiaries of Sony, Guerrilla Games, Killzone: Mercenary, an FPS title exclusive to Vita, and a spin-off to the original Killzone series, was announced.

Killzone: Mercenary, like most spin-offs, will be quite different from the core Killzone series. This time you’ll be put in the shoes of a mercenary who works with both Helghast and ISA. This is big news as this is the first time in Killzone’s history that you will get to work with the Helghast. DEATH TO THE ISA!

And what more is that this handheld spin-off is being made by Guerrilla Games themselves and not out-sourcing the title to some other development studio to make a sub-par Killzone game. Moreover, Mercenary is being developed using the Killzone 3 engine, which no wonder makes the game look fabulous for a handheld.

Check out the amazing announcement trailer below, featuring half live-action and half-screenswiping gameplay action.

Details at the moment are pretty scarce, but Sony promised to reveal more soon.

Killzone: Mercenary is scheduled to be released at some point next year.

  • Fourth Black Ops 2 DLC is called Apocalypse, arriving on Xbox Live August 27th

Black Ops 2 developers Treyarch have finally revealed what is to be the fourth and final DLC for Black Ops 2 called Apocalypse. The Apocalypse DLC pack contains four multiplayer maps which are detailed below:

    Multiplayer Maps:

    • Pod: A failed utopian community from the 70’s has left stacks of dilapidated residential pods nestled into an abandoned cliff side in Taiwan. Its residents long gone, the modernist compound now hosts frenetic combat as players must run atop the pods, as well as navigate their multi-tiered interiors for a strategic edge.
    • Frost: Fresh snow meets explosive gunpowder in this snow-capped European city, where the bridge over a frozen canal separates it into two sides, requiring players to employ multi-level traversal strategies to outsmart and ultimately outshoot their enemies.
    • Takeoff: Fans of Stadium from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike DLC will find themselves at home on Takeoff. Marooned in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, this remote launch site is all about close-quarters combat, combining tight corners with open spaces for intense encounters.
    • Dig: An adaptation of the fan-favorite Courtyard from Call of Duty: World at War, where two archeological dig sites in Afghanistan become the perfect playground for combatants eager for hectic, unceasing confrontations. Treyarch, has retained the spirit of Courtyard with two major chokepoints, a wide open layout and raised platforms, but has provided fans with a fresh take on the multitude of paths.

    Zombies Map:

    • Origins: a new adventure which takes place in “a Dieselpunk-themed First World War” and stars the original Zombies heroes. Unleashed after the Germans unearthed the mysterious “Element 115,” this next chapter in the Zombies legacy will explore the saga’s origins as players reunite with an unlikely band of soldiers that come together to defeat the greatest evil the world has ever seen, using a period-specific arsenal that includes Wonder Weapons that harness supernatural powers, a diesel-drone and Mark IV tank, as well a new perk machine and power-ups – and that’s just the start. Players will need all the help they can get to succeed in defeating the undead, as well as evading an unprecedented 1,000-foot tall robot abomination. In this stylized undead adventure, they’ll need every advantage if they have any hope of surviving one of Treyarch’s deepest Zombies experiences to date.

The Black Ops 2 Apocalypse DLC pack will be available exclusively on Xbox Live on August 27th while players on the PS3 and PC will get it a month later.

Finally the wait is over as Hideo Kojima, the legendary video game-designer reveals Metal Gear Solid 5 dubbed as Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes at the 25th Metal Gear Anniversary that took place in Tokyo.

Ground Zeroes runs on the new FOX ENGINE. The people who attended the event tweeted that a real-time footage of the game was shown and it left the audience jaw-dropped on the floor. The game is set to be an open-world game.

One of the artwork images show Big Boss in a completely modified stealth suit from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, along with a very prominent Militaires Sans Frontières patch on his right shoulder, which we can’t help but speculate that the game will be a sequel to Peace Walker.

The demo was running on a PC with current-gen specs according to a person in the audience. Does this mean the new installment is making its way to PC?

People reported that Snake crawled, avoided searchlights, killed a guard, rode a jeep and called a helicopter for evac in the footage. It was typical MGS but the atmosphere and the scale was beyond amazing.

Check out the sneaking suit below.

According to the latest podcast by Kojima Productions Report, it is stated that something will be go down on Metal Gear’s ’25th Anniversary’ event to be held on 30th August in Tokyo Midtown.

The news came when Ken Mendoza, a Kojima Productions Report podcaster, announced that the event would contain “a lot of exciting announcements.”

  • GTA V breezes past 15 million sales, might surpass 25 million by year’s end

Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz claims that GTA V has sold over 15 million units so far and is on a projected course to clear 25 million units sold by the end of this year.

Below is the research note he sent to investor (via CVG)

Based on the $1B three-day figure Take-Two disclosed, we believe the game has already sold through at least 15MM units.

For a game to sell 60% of its first year units in just three days would be abnormally high; we estimate that Call of Duty sells about 45-50% of its first year units in its first week at retail.

However, for now we are assuming that GTA 5 sales will be extremely front-loaded due to high gamer anticipation, and will also have a shorter sales tail given the launch of next-gen consoles in November.

GTA V broke all records this month by becoming the fastest selling video gamer ever, beating previous record holder Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Have you bought the game yet? Let us know what you think of it in the comments below.

  • Amazon’s rumored smartphone might be free

According to a new report by former Wall Street Journal reporter, Jessica E. Lessin, the long rumored Amazon smartphone will be sold for free whether it’s sold via carrier contract or not. There are whispers of Amazon trying to introduce an Amazon Prime like service but it’s skeptical as Amazon will have to strike difficult deals with both manufacturers and cell phone carriers to make something happen that hasn’t been done before.

Where is that Amazon smartphone Amazons rumored smartphone might be free

Amazon has previously tried something similar to this, their recent Kindle Fire line of tablets were sold at a lower cost which allowed them to make up profit by selling books, apps, videos, etc.

The Amazon smartphone is rumored to run a modified version of Android like the Kindle Fire line of tablets. This version does not include any of Google’s line of apps like the Play Store and are replaced by Amazon’s own services. It’ll be nice to have more competition in the Android space as it can only lead to more innovation, what do you think? Let us know your opinion in the comments below.
