  • Sony CEO Compares Vita Launch To PS3, Says Sales Are “Acceptable”

Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) CEO Jack Tretton shared his thoughts about the state of Vita sales and the similarities between the launch of PS3, which failed to make a dominant impression at first but now sells steadily. Sony is doubtlessly hoping the fate of Vita to turn out the same.

Vita and PSP sales this year combined (of 1.4 million) are less than PSP sales alone last year (1.8 million). Sony, however, refused to elaborate on exactly how many of these 1.4 million handheld units were Vitas . ”I think there’s an acceptable number – and [the number] we’ve sold: That’s acceptable. If it was triple that, I’d be happier. If it was one-third, I’d be disappointed.”  Tretton stated.

He also noted that PS3 also got off to shaky start and while it may still not be the top selling console at the moment, it’s still doing pretty well for itself considering it’s nearing the end of a console cycle.

“Anything with great rewards is going to come with great challenges,” Tretton said. “We felt if the tech was there, and the game support was there, then the audience would be there. … I feel much better about it now than I did four months ago.”

Sony expects to sell 10 million units by the period ending on 31st March 2013 despite Vita’s rough launch. It is optimistic about its holiday lineup featuring titles like Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Call Of Duty: BlackOps Declassified and its own exclusive PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, as notable sales boosters. Sony hopes to move more eyes towards Vita with the announcement of White PS Vita bundled with Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation. The bundle will include: Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation game, a “Crystal White” PS Vita (WiFi only) and a 4GB memory card.

ACLib Sony CEO Compares Vita Launch To PS3, Says Sales Are Acceptable

Jack Tretton also had a few choice words to say about social and casual games:

“[Social and free-to-play] is a business I think a lot of companies are learning is difficult to sustain for the long term. It’s an adjunct or it’s an add-on, but it’s not where gaming is headed. It’s an additive diversion. There’s a place for social and freemium, but it’s not going to replace the business models that are out there.”

Are you a proud owner of Vita? What do you think is stopping the growth of a powerful handheld? Do you believe that sales will do relatively better as more games such as Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Call Of Duty: BlackOps Declassified and more Vita-only exclusives are released? • Black Ops 2 Info Supposedly Leaked

Treyarch and Activision showed off Call of Duty: Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer yesterday which received mixed reactions although we personally loved the direction the series is going in. Today Dualshockers was tipped with information regarding the game’s single player, multiplayer, weapons and zombies mode. This information is in no way official so take it with a grain of salt.

Do note that these do contain story mode spoilers, continue at your own risk.

Here is some leaked Black Ops 2 information from an industry contact at Activision. Although he is just an associate producer, he has been telling me all about the game. This information is 100% correct, and verified, and I will not reveal my friend’s name. He doesn’t even know I am posting this. I will provide no other details, as I do not know anything more than this, so please do not ask.

This is just to get fans more excited about the game and to give some release to fans that have been waiting patiently. If you are a fan and want to know more about the game, continue reading. If not, there are MAJOR SPOILER ALERTS below. Have fun.

    Single Player:

    Story

The story revolves two things. First around Frank woods as an old man talking about his missions with Alex Mason, giving tips on how to defeat Raul Menendez which you flash back to and are able to play. Other part of the story involves Raul Menendez, a terrorist that eventually controls the worlds drone army, starting a world war. Menendez has presence in the flashback missions as well, showing how he rose to power over the years.

Although there is spoilers here, I will not reveal the ending, which sounds pretty damn good from what I heard.

As said in interviews, some of your actions dictate how the game plays out.

Single player has perks, and special ones are ones such as brute force. What this means is through a single player level there are certain areas of the game you can only access if have this perk. This will allow you to break a lock and get special grenades or extra guns for example.

    Diving to prone is back.

Nuketown will be back in a futuristic setting.
DLC will be in map packs, unlike MW3.

    Locations:

Afghanistan -The level that shows players riding horses in the trailer. This is a flashback mission. Meet up with Chinese soldiers to meet at a Mujahideen  base, who are willing to exchange info on Menendez in exchange from helping defend them against a Russian attack. The Mujahideen betray Mason and Woods at the end of the mission.

Angola – No information given. Rumored to be the first mission.

Panama – Mission name “Let it snow”. Flashback mission. Takes place in 1989 in the invasion of Panama. Capture dictator Manuel Noriega and plant false evidence to smear his name. Mission ends with the death of Mason. Woods thinks he is assassinating Menendez, but after he shoots and checks the body, it is revealed he actually just killed Mason. Woods is shot and Manuel Noriega escapes. Woods is then rescued.

Haiti – Possible final level and/or strike force mission.

Pakistan – No information given. However, speculation about this being a future mission, recording Menendez’s conversation, driving a car, and flying a helicopter.

Al Jinan – A floating city in the middle of the ocean. Obtain information on a weapon called

“Karma”. Go undercover as technicians and even user a remote controlled spider robot to control through vents to gain access to areas of the level. It is revealed that “Karma” is not a weapon, and is in fact a girl. Fight through a nightclub full of people and
an outdoor mall. At the end is a choice that will effect later on in the game. Karma is taken captive by enemies and you must stop her from escaping. Use a sniper rifle to either kill or disable her.

U.S.S. Barack Obama – An aircraft carrier. Menendez is held captive. While he is being interviewed, Menendez escapes while the Cordis Die group attacks. Near the end of the mission, player is able to actually play as Menendez, taking hostages, then escape while shooting gas grenades with a launcher.

Singapore (Strikeforce mission) – No information. Gameplay demos online show this level better than the info I had available.

    Yemen(Strikeforce mission) – No information

Yemen (Non strikeforce, regular mission) – Play as Fahrid, an undercover informant. This mission contains a choice that can effect the rest of the story. Harper is taken captive and Mendez gives you a gun and tell you to shoot him. You can either choose to shoot and kill Harper to maintain your cover, or to shoot Menendez. If player chooses to shoot Menendez, he will grab your gun then shoot the player. Player then plays as Mason. In either decision, Mendez is captured at the end of the mission.

Nicaragua – Flashback mission with Woods and Mason.

Myanmar – Obtain a rare earth element from an enemy base. Start the mission in a squirrel suit flying through a rainy landscape.

Los Angeles – Shown in the E3 demo. Highlights include flying a jet and driving a truck.

    Multiplayer

You can now make a class based on how much equipment you have, rather than having to choose stuff you don’t ever use. For example, it is possible to have 6 perks if you choose to not carry a primary or secondary weapon (you will have just a knife). If you choose to pick a primary gun, it will say you need to replace one of those perks. If you don’t like any perks, you can add more features to your primary or secondary.

Live Streaming – Black Ops 2 will now have a live streaming feature built right in. You can  automatically stream your gameplay over the internet easily. You would require a camera though for the feature that shows your face. This may or may not work with Kinect.

Dedicated servers – Black ops 2 will now feature deticated servers, so now you wont have to worry about host migrations when someone leaves the match.

    Some primary weapons

Assault Shield – Same as the riot shield in MW3, but can be placed on the ground standing up, so it can give the player some cover while using their other weapon.

    SCAR assault rifle

    Vector K10 SMG

    Ballistic Knife

    AS-50 sniper rifle

    MP7

Storm PSR – Shown in the E3demo.

  • Insider Claims Monster Hunter Is Indeed Coming To The West

Monster Hunter is franchise dear to us all and Capcom did promised us western gamers some news about the franchise ‘veeeeery soon’ but you can only wait for so long. Now according to a NeoGAF member who claims to have insider information about the game has confirmed that Monster Hunter is indeed coming to NA shores and well maybe Europe too. Read the insider’s full post below.

Okay, GAF, this will be my first time doing this, but I’ll just go ahead and do it.

First, I know many people will call me out, because I can’t point to my source, and I can’t tell many details, I know I would do the same, to my defence all I can say is that many Gaffers know me by now, I’ve never been banned, I’ve never lied, I’ve always been a serious poster, well not that serious, but not in a bad way anyway. :p

    So here is the thing…

I can CONFIRM you guys that Monster Hunter will indeed arrive to the 3DS in North America (I don’t really know about Europe’s situation though), that will obviously be in 2013, what game will it be? will it be both 3G and 4? I can’t be too specific, but there are two probable cases:

    1) If 3G gets here we will also get 4.

    2) If 3G doesn’t come, that’ll confirm 4 will be here.

    Both cases we win.
I know this is more of a Cpt. Obvious thing, because it has been already teased, at least subtly, but I’m getting into this, so fans of the series can rest assured that the west will get their MH fix on their 3DS. Why I want them to know? because I know how it feels to be a waiting fan, I’m still waiting for my F-Zero fix, and my Dreamfall Chapters.

So we’ll either get Monster Hunter 4 or both 4 and 3G on our 3DS’, sounds great! What do you think of the legitimacy of this rumor? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Uncharted 3 Patch 1.13 Brings Massive Improvements

Naughty Dog’s, Uncharted 3 for the PS3 will be getting a new patch (1.13) that will contain a large cluster of updates and fixes.

    uncharted718 1 Uncharted 3 Patch 1.13 Brings Massive Improvements

A post on Naughty Dog’s blog reveals information on the gameplay fixes that this patch will contain. These are listed below:

    • Increased recoil has been added to the G-MAL
    • Deathmatch will now appear in round 5 instead of round 3 in Team Objective game modes
    • Quitting out of Co-op will no longer count as a Competitive loss when signing-out/disconnecting
    • Lab games no longer count towards the Leaderboard
    • Death from Above medal now requires the player to be at least 2 meters off the ground
    • Players can earn more than 1 “Here, Hold This Medal” in a match
    • A collection of trophies have been added for each DLC pack available (50 Trophies to be exact)
    • The TAU Sniper Pistol has been tuned so the rate of fire is up 30% and its starting ammo is now 8 not 12
    • The M9 blindfire accuracy has been reduced by 10% efficiency
    • Cloaked level 3 is now immune to the effects of Disruption (it wasn’t working properly so we fixed it)

Apparently, these fixes are only a small chunk of what this patch has to offer. Naughty Dog isn’t ready to fire up the rest of the content contained within this patch as yet, but more blog posts are expected soon.

This patch will be released on August 14th.

Furthermore, Naughty Dog has posted remixes of Uncharted 3 multiplayer power play music on their Soundcloud page to be downloaded for free. Head on over there if you’re interested.

  • iPad mini rumored to be thinner than current iPad

It’s that time of the year again. We’re nearing the time when Apple announces new hardware for the tech world. While we already know of the iPhone 5, the new rumor going around the block recently is regarding the iPad mini. This iPad mini will pack in a 7.85-inch screen with the resolution of 1024×768. Now there are some new rumors regarding what to expect from this mystery device. These rumors are not specs, but design related.

ipad and mini ipad iPad mini rumored to be thinner than current iPad

The iPad mini will be as thin as the iPod touch 4G, giving the tablet a thickness of only 7.2mm. The current third generation iPad measures 9.4mm in thickness so this is a substantial decrease in fat. This is even thinner than the Kindle Fire. According to reports the design of this mini iPad will be borrowed heavily from the iPod touch. Height wise it’s comparable to the Nexus 7 but it is wider. That is because of the aspect ratio Apple uses on its device screens.

Certainly some interesting numbers regarding dimensions. The throwback to the old iPod touch design will be a change from the aluminum ridden 10-inch iPads. That being said the mirror finish on the iPod touch is very scratch prone so I hope Apple does something about this issue. The rest of the looks should be the same as the bigger iPad

iPad mini, if real, should see the light of day this fall. The unveiling will occur alongside iPhone 5 so it should be an event worth watching. The iPad mini is rumored to fall under the 200-250$ price range which makes this a direct competitor of the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire somewhat. There is still plenty of time to Fall 2012 which gives Google a few months advantage to further strengthen its tablet.

  • TF2: Meet The Pyro With Pyromania Update

A couple of days ago Valve released the Pyromania Update which features a lot of new content. This was bundled with the Meet The Pyro video which is the ninth video in the “Meet The Team” series. Long awaiting fans can now finally know as to how the world seems when looking from behind a gas mask.

With the Pyromania Update, Team Fortress 2 gets a brand new gameplay mode called Doomsday. The mode pits BLU against RED and teams will be delivering a suitcase of Astralium to American Monkeynaut Poopy Joe’s rocket, so he can blast off and hunt down Soviet space chimp Vladimir Bananas (I swear that I did not make that up).

In addition to the new mode the update also adds ten new weapons to the game. Valve also threw in a bonus, anyone who plays the game between now and July 5th will receive a brand new vintage item.

If all that wasn’t enough, Valve went on to announce their Source Filmmaker which will be released soon. All the nine Meet The Team videos have been made using this tool and if you’re interested in film making then you need to check this tool out. For now you can head on over to their official page and sign up for a beta invite.

You can check out the new Meet The Pyro video below. This marks the end of the “Meet The Team” videos for Team Fortress 2.

Time to go back to TF2 eh?
