  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII Won’t Be Shown At TGS

More sad news for all the JRPG fans who were hoping for a closer look at this long delayed game from Square Enix. It turns out that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is absent from the list of games that are to shown at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in Japan.

According to a trusted source from NeoGAF, the confirmed TGS titles are XIII-2, Type-0, KH3D and Theatrhythm. Theatehythm is a new title from Tetsuya Nomura which will be a part of 25th’s Anniversary for Final Fantasy. According to the original user at NeoGAF

No Versus at TGS… think most people knew this though. Nomura has already decided on the timing of its next reveal, however.
THEATRhythm is the first game as a part of the 25th Anniversary for Final Fantasy.

Their confirmed TGS titles are XIII-2, Type-0, KH3D and Theatrhythm. They’ll have the open mega theater again, and the PVs will eventually be released on the web.

It is already confirmed that Versus XIII won’t be releasing on PS3 this year and their are no news yet of a release date in 2012. The only in-game footage of Versus XIII was shown during last year’s TGS which showed a lot of footage including impressive fights and beautifully rendered CGI cut scenes. The gameplay looked similar to Kingdom Hearts and was a lot more action oriented.

  • PlayStation 3 Latest Firmware Update To Add Some Cool New Features

Sony has released the details on the upcoming firmware update for the PlayStation 3. According to official PlayStation blog, this new update will add the ability to auto-synch trophies and have a auto-upload function for online save data. There is a catch though, it is limited to PlayStation Plus subscribers only. Read more to find out the full change log.

Sadly, as we know, the most promising new features are only available to people who have a PlayStation Plus subscription meaning regular users won’t be able to enjoy it. So what about the regular users? What do they get with this new firmware update. Well according to the press release, the regular users are also getting some new features.

For starters, there is nothing really important. There is a new category added on XMB which will include all the Video Applications at one place for ease of use. There is also a new recommend function which will allow you to share you recommendations with others for PlayStation Store items. Along with these minor updates, this new firmware update will also bring updated support for 3D and Blu-ray playback. Read the official press release below:-

Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).

To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.

A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.

You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB

Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:

3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.

IGN has posted this neat video which pits the upcoming HD remake of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus to their PS2 counterparts. You can check this nifty video for yourself. Make sure to watch it in High Definition(HD) resolution for maximum experience.

While ICO still retains the old school PS style look, Shadow of the Colossus definitely looks better and much more smoother game. The resolution boost gives a much more crisper image. The 3D support that is also being implemented will be a nice bonus.

Shadow of the Colossus still has some of our favorite gaming moment of all time, it was the first game which truly made us feel like a hero who has to slay giant monsters of all kind. Armed with just a bow and a simple sword, we had to use various methods and exploit the weakness of these giant monsters(Colossus)in the game in order to slay them.

  • Silent Hill HD Collection And Silent Hill: Downpour New Screens Released

The PS3 exclusive Silent Hill HD Collection will contain Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 in HD. A couple of screens were released for Silent Hill HD Collection for PS3 and the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour for PS3 and Xbox 360.

These games appear to be quite dark especially Silent Hill 2, but they were quite dark from the start to begin. Silent Hill 2 has our all time favorite and scary villain Pyramid Head. Both, Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 are regarded as the best among the whole Silent Hill series.

Silent Hill: Downpour is a new game in the Silent Hill universe which will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360. There is no PC release currently planned for it. It is scheduled to be released on October 25th on both platforms.

Silent Hill HD Collection will remain PS3 exclusive, it is still unknown whether it will be released on Xbox 360. Although, it was rumored that this will be a timed exclusive and that Xbox 360 users will be able to enjoy it later. It couldn’t be highly unlikely though as Silent Hill was never exclusive to Sony platform. Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, which was a updated version of Silent Hill 2 with extra content and was released on PS2 as Greatest Hits; It was released on the original Xbox as well.

History has taught us that most Silent Hill games are just timed exclusives and they are later released for other platforms like it happened with past Silent Hill games.

Silent Hill HD Collection will be released on a unspecified date either in September or October 2011.

Below is a leaked trailer of Silent Hill HD Collection shown at Comic Con 2011.
