    2011, yet another year full of dance/trance/techno/pop songs with a few slow heart touching tracks as well, has been a year of women. They’ve been prominent in the music industry throughout with one hit replacing the other in the charts and the war’s been on ever since. New records have been made by these 10 women who have been everywhere this year. Let’s get down to our top 10 list of the most popular female singers in 2011.

    10. Nicki Minaj

    the Young Money artist, Nicki, has been in the charts the whole year with one hit after another from her latest album Pink Friday. She started recording in 2004 and later signed a deal with Young Money in 2009. And Young Money is winning, so Nicki is winning since. Most of her singles are in the top Billboard Hot 100 Chart with hits like Your Love, Super Bass, etc.

    9. Beyoncé

    Beyoncé Knowles born in September 1981, is a well-known female artist who’s been in the business since 1997. She’s been making hits ever since she went Solo, and made hits like Single Ladies last year. And this year her songs Run the World (Girls) and Best Thing I Never Had have been a huge success making her our Number nine. She is currently pregnant with Jay-Z’s kid.

    8. Shakira

    Shakira started off in 1990 as a singer, songwriter, dancer and philanthropist. She learned singing and belly dancing at School and then sold millions of records worldwide with her first two albums in 1995 and 1998. Then in 2002, her hit Whenever Wherever was a huge hit. Then Hips Don’t Lie and Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) were also big hits. Rabiosa is one of the latest tracks from her.

    Kesha is not only a singer, she’s also a very talented songwriter and a rapper. She started her career in 2005 signing to Dr. Luke’s label. Making hits like Right Round with Flo Rida and Tik Tok, she became our number seven. We R Who We R is a track that’s also been in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

    6. Taylor Swift

    Taylor Swift started off her career in 2006 with a single called Tim McGraw. Then she released her second album Fearless which won her four Grammys. She released her album Speak Now in 2010 which sold over a million copies in the first week. She’s gained such huge success and now has millions of fans in just five years.

    Britney Spears has been one of the most popular female artists of the decade. She’s been in the music career since 1992. She’s made hits in the late 90s such as Baby One More Time and Oops!… I Did It Again. She kept releasing hits in the 21st century and made hits like Gimme More, Piece of Me, etc in the recent years. She recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the MTV VMAs.

    4. Rihanna

    Rihanna is singer, songwriter and philanthropist, who started her career in 2005 and has been a huge success. Hits like Unfaithful, Umbrella etc never get old. Her most recent album Loud has sold over 8 million copies worldwide. She just released a new single We Found Love which is also in the top 10 Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

    Katy Perry, being one of the top 3 most popular artists, has been in the business since 2001. Releasing various internet singles like Ur So Gay etc. She released her hit single in 2008 I Kissed a Girl. Her songs like Teenage Dream, California Gurls, Firework, E.T, and Last Friday Night are among her hits.

    Adele is a British-singer who started her career in 2006 and in such a small amount of time made hits and won Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Her hits are Rolling in the Deep, Someone Like You and Set Fire to the Rain. She has a magical voice which is pretty rare in these years of techno stuff.

    Lady Gaga, being the number one, has been the most popular artist since 2008. She started her career in 2005. She released hits like Just Dance and Poker Face in 2008. And then released two more albums which sold millions of copies worldwide. Her recent singles like Born This Way, The Edge of Glory, Judas and ‘You and I’ have been a huge success all over the world.
