  • Skype 2.1 Update For Android Adds Video To Most Phones

Skype starting bringing video calling to Android phones this June and has been working hard ever since to add as many devices to the compatibility list as they can. Skype 2.1 does just that.

A total of 17 more phones have been added to the compatibility list, these include: HTC Desire, LG Revolution, Samsung Droid Charge and the mighty Galaxy S II. If your phone is running Froyo you will need to turn on video calling from the Skype app’s settings which will allow the back camera to work, do note the front facing camera won’t work but it might be enabled in future updates.

Skype 2.1 also brings along bug fixes and performance improvements. The download link is at the source below, if you have already had the application installed just open up the Android market and install the update.

  • How To: Install A Custom ROM On HTC Desire

Installing a custom ROM is the first thing to do if you’re a power user and even if you’re not it’s worthy to check one out if you’re looking for a performance upgrade or a change of visuals. Follow the guide after the break to install a custom ROM on your HTC Desire.

How to install a Custom ROM:

Before you can install a Custom ROM, you need to download it first. Download your desired ROM from XDA. You should go with CM7, MIUI, Leedroid or Oxygen for  a start. Download the ROM and copy the ZIP file over to your Desire’s  SD card’s root directory / main directory.

    1) Now that you’re rooted and have the ROM, open HBOOT by holding down the volume and power button and booting your device as before. Select “recovery” in the menu and open it.

    2) This should open Clockwork MOD Recovery, a custom recovery installed by Unrevoked during the rooting process.

    3) Now clear the cache partition and wipe all data on the Desire through the recovery menu. Open Advanced and clear the Dalvik Cache as well.

    4) Now that you wiped your Desire, select “Install ZIP from SD card” and select the ROM of your choice. Once its installed, simply REBOOT and you’re done.

    I’m done, now what?

Now that you’ve finished there is a whole lot of things you can do with your device, you couldn’t before. You can create backups of your current ROM through Clockwork MOD for backups, you can install a custom ROM as shown above, you can gain S-off on your device for added functionality and try rooted applications. Try Titanium Backup for a start.

Hope the guide was clear and helpful. If you have any questions or problems feel free to ask!
