  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Ported To The Nexus One, Full Release Coming Soon

This seems to be Google’s week, first they announced their new flagship phone the Galaxy Nexus along with partners Samsung. They also announced a release date for Ice Cream Sandwich and released the SDK. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich seems to be confirmed for the Nexus S but it looks like the OG Nexus One is gonna get some of that yummy goodness as well.

A user by the name of drl337md posted a video on YouTube showing off ICS running on the Nexus One and that too quite smoothly for an initial port I might add.

The almost two year old Nexus One is proving to be quite a fighter, suprisingly able to run Android 4.0 packing just a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB of RAM while the first ICS phone the Galaxy Nexus packs a blazing fast 1.2GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM.

  • Verizon Getting The Samsung Droid Prime (Nexus Prime) This October?

It looks the Verizon won’t be getting the Galaxy S II after seeing all three US variants being pictured together. We would think the beefier Galaxy S II LTE would be heading to the big red but US’ largest carrier has plans to brings the Droid Prime (Nexus Prime) to it’s stores.

According to BGR Verizon will be getting the Samsung SCH-i515 codenamed the Droid Prime sometime in October. Is the Droid Prime a variant of the Nexus Prime? They also said the firs Ice Cream Sandwich phone will be exclusive to Verizon for sometime, well that’s a bummer for all Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile customers.

BGR also reported that Verizon believes the Galaxy S II (And the LTE version) can’t compete with the iPhone 5 so they went to something better.

  • Google Confirms Ice Cream Sandwich For Nexus S And “Most” Gingerbread Devices

Google’s Gabe Cohene has just confirmed that their previous Nexus device the Nexus S will be getting an update to Ice Cream Sandwich just as we thought.

He along with the Director of Android operating system User Experience Matias Duarte think that most Gingebread devices are capable of getting an upgrade to Android 4.0. “Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device.”

If this is true wait onto your Galaxy S II’s and Sensations, a tasty Ice Cream Sandwich with a bit of OEM topping on top should be coming to your device soon. Ice Cream Sandwich for the Nexus One is still not confirmed though.

  • Ice Cream Sandwich Source Code Confirmed For Release By Android Engineer But Not Before Galaxy Nexus Launch

Everybody’s wondering where the much awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich source code since there was no mention of a release at Samsung and Google’s Galaxy Nexus and ICS event in Hong Kong earlier today.

Luckily an Android Engineer Dan Morrill, aka morrildl decided to tell us exactly what was going on:

To reiterate, these servers contain only the ‘gingerbread’ and ‘master’ branches from the old AOSP servers. We plan to release the source for the recently-announced Ice Cream Sandwich soon, once it’s available on devices.

The Galaxy Nexus will be the first Ice Cream Sandwich device and will land in stores by mid of November so we can expect the source code by then. If you’re wondering what a source code is, well it’s basically the main code Vanilla Android is based on. Custom ROM maker like CyanogenMod use this source code to create the ROMs we all love to use.
