  • Lytro Reveals World’s First Light Field Camera

Lytro has been going on about their Light Field Cameras for quite sometime now. They kept releasing a tentative date for this baby to be available. As of today, the Lytro Light Field Camera is available for pre-ordering! Keep in mind, this is the world’s FIRST Light Field Camera and it is currently available to be shipped only in the US. What is a light field camera you ask, how much is it for? Read on to find out.

A light field camera is one in which there is no need to set your cameras to focus on a certain object in the photo. The photographers of today spend a great deal of time setting up their shutter speeds, exposure settings, lens tweaks, and a lot of other major changes which bring about the differences in their photographs in terms of depth and perception. Well a light field camera nullifies the need to do any of those things! It is a camera which has only two buttons, the first one turns it on and the other one takes the photos. The focusing part comes AFTER the pictures are taken, the pictures are then worked on through a software in the computers.

This camera is only compatible with the Mac right now but a program for Windows is expected to be released soon too. Now for the pricing, this bad boy comes in three colors as shown in the picture above, they cost differently:

The Red-Hot has 16 GB of storage which amounts to 750 pictures and costs $499.

The Graphite and Electric Blue both come with 8 GB of storage which is about 350 pictures and costs $399.

Any of these models can be ordered through Lytro’s official website, link will be given below. The pre-orders are valid within the US only right now but will open up to more countries later. The device will be released later this year, no release-date is out yet but expected soon.
