  • Skype makes video messaging free for all it’s users

Skype under it’s new ownership from Microsoft is quickly evolving and bringing in new features that make it’s service even better. Today the VOIP giant announced that it’s making video messaging free for all it’s users

Skype announced the feature some time ago to compete with Vine and the now Instagram video, although limited at first with the amount of 3 minute messages you could send being limited and the only way to get over that limit was to get a premium Skype account but now it’s free.

Skype video messaging is now available on the desktop versions of Skype, iOS versions for both the iPhone and iPad, Android, and BlackBerry. Surprisingly this list does not include Windows Phone which of course is made by Microsoft which own Skype.

  • New Job Listing Suggests Next Generation Xbox Might Be Coming Sooner Than You Thought

We’re all excited to see what the next generation of consoles bring to the table and the speculations are at an all time high.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was the first current gen consoles to hit the stores followed by the Wii and PS3, this time around Microsoft might be second with the Wii U already announced but according to a new job listing by the Redmond giant the wait might not be that long after all.

Skype is working on powering real-time voice and video communications on the Xbox. Xbox is a fundamental lynchpin of Skype’s living-room strategy, and we are focused on enabling amazing new in-game and in-console voice and video experiences for the next generation of Xbox. This is a crucial initiative for Xbox, and it is time-critical given the hardware lead times involved.

Its pretty much a given that Skype will be present on the next Xbox but with the amount of emphasis shown in the job listing Microsoft wants to waste no time. I think its safe to say that the software part of the console could be in its final stages, guess we’ll have to wait till E3 to find out.

  • Skype 2.1 Update For Android Adds Video To Most Phones

Skype starting bringing video calling to Android phones this June and has been working hard ever since to add as many devices to the compatibility list as they can. Skype 2.1 does just that.

A total of 17 more phones have been added to the compatibility list, these include: HTC Desire, LG Revolution, Samsung Droid Charge and the mighty Galaxy S II. If your phone is running Froyo you will need to turn on video calling from the Skype app’s settings which will allow the back camera to work, do note the front facing camera won’t work but it might be enabled in future updates.

Skype 2.1 also brings along bug fixes and performance improvements. The download link is at the source below, if you have already had the application installed just open up the Android market and install the update.
