  • Monolith Soft Reveals X, Could Be Xenoblade Chronicles Sequel

Monolith Soft and Nintendo revealed a brand new game codenamed X during Nintendo Direct. The game looks and plays very similarly to Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) but we’re still not sure if its a sequel as Nintendo is simply labeling it as “a new game from Monolith Soft,”. Check out the debut trailer below:

The development is led by Director and Studio Head Tetsuya Takahashi, his previous works include Xenoblade Chronicles and previous Xeno games. The Character Design is being done by Kunihiko Tanaka responsible for Xenogears (PS1) and Xenosaga Episode 1 (PS2).  The Soundtrack is being done by Japanese film, TV and anime composer veteran Hiroyuki Sawano.

Below are some screens from the trailer:

I personally think the game looks brilliant. The soundtrack, characters and world look very interesting, and don’t forget about the mechs! The game will also have multiplayer which is rare in JRPGs so it could turn out to be very promising.

Xseed CEO Shinichi Suzuki was quoted in the Press Release

It’s fantastic to be bringing such a highly-anticipated title like Pandora’s Tower to such a vocal fan base,

North American gamers have been very patient in waiting for this game to be released, and we’re confident they will be pleased when they get their hands on the title.

A short description of Pandora’s Tower is as follows:

A tale of unfortunate circumstances, Pandora’s Tower opens in the Kingdom of Elyria, where an unassuming singer named Elena succumbs to a wretched curse during a festival performance. Bearing an arcane mark on her back, she starts transforming into a savage monster, causing the town guards to attempt to kill her in order to prevent it. A young ex-mercenary named Aeron, whose heart has forever been pledged to Elena, whisks her away in the nick of time – and with the help of a mysterious witch named Mavda, he learns what must be done to avert her wretched fate. He must descend into The Scar, a massive chasm tied down by twelve chains connected to a floating island in its center, atop which sit thirteen interconnected towers. There, he must use his sword and a sacred chain to battle his way through each tower and extract the flesh of the boss “masters” that dwell within, which Elena must consume in order to reverse her ongoing transformation. But the clock is ticking! The longer Aeron takes to vanquish each beast, the less human Elena becomes, affecting her character and the game’s final outcome in a profound manner. Time is of the essence…

  • Xenoblade Developers Monolith Soft Challenging US Developers With Next Gen Wii U Title

Now Xenoblade was a great game, it was my favorite game of last year and in my very humble opinion the best JRPG of this generation. Now developers of Xenoblade Chronicles Monolith Soft have issued a statement which fans of the Eastern style of games would very much appreciate.

With their now confirmed next gen Wii U title they aim to show the world that Japan can still produce great games. Hirohide Sugira is an executive producer at Monolith while Michihiko Inaba is part of the dev team.

Inaba: “I’d like to make an HD game that will wow the players. I want to show that Japan can still keep up with the USA when it comes next gen technology. Our goal is to become something like the developers of the Fallout series, Bethesda Softworks.”

Sugira: “I believe that today’s Japanese gaming industry has lost its touch, and we’d like to do something to change that.”

Now I’m not sure comparing yourself with Bethesda is smart, we don’t want buggy games after all. Now don’t go searching for your pitchforks just yet, that was a joke.

It looks like Monolith Soft, the developers behind the highly successful Wii exclusive JRPG – Xenoblade Chronicles are hiring developers for their Kyoto studio to work on an unannounced 3DS project.

Monolith Soft is one of Nintendo’s new first party developers, Nintendo bought controlling stakes from the company back in May 2007. The company opened up an additional studio in Kyoto back in July 2011 to work closely with their parent company Nintendo who’s main offices are also located there.
