After Apple announced that it won’t be bundling its in-house made YouTube app in iOS 6 it was up to Google to come up with their own. Today Google released the new and improved YouTube app for the iPhone and iPod Touch with an iPad app coming sometime later.
The new iOS YouTube app is completely native and not a port of the Android version although they book look very similar.
New enhancements in the iOS YouTube app include vastly superior load times, integrated sharing function, Closed Caption usability and improved search among others. Google is also allowing iOS users to gain access to Google Play TV, Movies and Music Videos.
Download the YouTube for iPhone and iPod Touch app from here or search for it directly on your iDevice.
YouTube has been blocked in Pakistan on direct orders of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf.
Blasphemous content will not be accepted at any cost
ISPs have started blocking the website, the process will be completed soon with the website being unavailable nationwide.
Chief Justice of Pakistan previously ordered only the blocking of blasphemous videos on YouTube but now it seems the whole website will be blocked instead mainly due to copies popping up rapidly, allowing the video to still be available.
YouTube had previously denied a removal request of the said video from the White House saying how it doesn’t violate any of its community guidelines. The video is blocked in several countries including India, Malaysia and Egypt who registered complaints to do so. Pakistan instead of registering a complaint decided to block the video themselves.
How long will the blockade last? Guess only time will tell.
This is just four months after Twitter was banned but that was just for a day.
Gamers are a competitive bunch, when they do something extraordinary in a game, they want everybody to see. This is where Game Capture devices come in, they allow you to record the gameplay directly from your console and allow you to share them with your friends or upload them on video sites like YouTube for everyone to see. Capturing gameplay, adding commentary and putting them on the internet has also become a career for some. Now due to the immense popularity of capturing gameplays, new capture devices are popping up ever so often in the market. Today we’ll be reviewing one of the front runners – the AVerMedia Game Capture HD.
The Game Capture HD comes packed in a glossy black box with a ton of items inside including the device itself, universal Component cables which can be used with the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, separate pair of Component cables for pass through, a remote for the device, an AC adapter and instruction manuals. Basically you get everything needed to record gameplay out of the box.
The primary selling point of the AVerMedia Game Capture HD is that it doesn’t need to be connected to a PC to record gameplay, all you need to do is connect an internal 2.5-inch SATA hard drive via an enclosure at the bottom of the device or an external hard or flash drive through the USB socket at the front. This comes in real handy when you want to record something at your friend’s or when you don’t have a computer nearby.
The AVerMedia Game Capture HD is a mid-range game capture device which can record video up to 1080i through Component. Unfortunately there is no HDMI input so getting that extra crisp 1080p quality won’t be possible, but you should worry about that if you’re getting this for casual recording purposes. Setting up the device is very easy, just connect the device to your console via the universal Component cables provided and then the device to your TV via the second set of Component cables. For audio your only choice is stereo through the RCA cables provided.
Thankfully there was little to no lag recording video during our testing, which for a device that doesn’t depends on a PC for encoding is great. Unfortunately though the Game Capture HD doesn’t record in-game chat, so if you want a voice over, you’ll have to do it via a computer. There is a work around for getting chat though, you could force chat through your console’s primary output so that its part of the game’s audio stream, by using this you will be able to record all audio sources while recording.
Now using the device is simple, just turn it on using the power button on the front of the Game Capture HD or by using the provided remote. After its on you can navigate the nicely designed menu to choose what you want to do. The menu is really easy to use and you can access various options using the remote, like formatting the attached hard drive or playing back recorded video. Video quality is pretty good, exactly what you would expect for the price. Video size is around 1GB for 10 minutes for recorded video which can be shrunk after converting the recorded .avi file to a more internet friendly container.
If you do plan on getting the Game Capture HD make sure to buy an extra AC adapter, mine stopped working after a few days so you may want to have a backup.
Unfortunately since the AVerMedia Game Capture HD only records on internal and external storage devices you can’t stream video or use a software like Xsplit to record video.
The AVerMedia Game Capture HD is a great game capture device for casual users, it does exactly what it should while being extremely easy to use. Everything you need comes right out of the box and setting up everything is a breeze. If you’re not that tech savvy and want something easy to use then the AVerMedia Game Capture HD is certainly recommended.
TechDeville awards the AVerMedia Game Capture HD 3/5 stars.
You can buy the AVerMedia Game Capture HD right now from Amazon.

Think back to 2005, imagine THE video sharing site that had just launched. The magically simple design, the total openness towards choice of content, none of the sad tube-faces saying “Sorry About That”. Call me an old-timer but I miss that Youtube. Where people could actually “speak” their minds without worrying about constantly being flagged and taken down because they used one second of their favorite songs in the video.
I miss that Youtube, it was about the people. The name made sense back then, now it’s just a corporate reservoir promoting anything that brings in money and forgetting the people who really made it what it is today, the average people, the everyday vloggers, the non-celebrity types.
While some young vloggers made it to the big-leagues, the rest of them either got their content taken down after the “corporate takeover” or just lost heart when Youtube changed its ways. Yes I admit, Youtube is the third most visited site in the world, it is THE video library of the internet, but that’s not the point, it should just be “Tube” because the “You” left four years ago.
So who is to blame here? Whose fault is it that Youtube had to implement thousands of new policies and scanning systems within itself to keep itself clean? There’s no one entity to point at. When people are given unlimited options for free, they will always (ALWAYS) take them for granted, it’s in the human nature. When the numbers went up from a mere hundred users to a million and counting, certain measures had to be taken to protect the integrity of Youtube, which meant sacrificing certain promises. The big companies saw no better chance to advertise than from a website which generates, literally generates, millions worth of traffic per minute.
All the big Youtubers of today make a living off of it, once the money starts rolling in, advertisers see a huge juicy burger sitting on a silver platter. Once the conglomerates started getting wind of how popular videos get on this particular website, they quickly made their camps at the very heart of Youtube. Big names took over the. Genuine fans of singers and movies who uploaded their videos and music just to make their favorite celebrities see the love, had their accounts banned and videos brought down along with a shiny new list of copyright claims by people no one has heard of before.
A lot of new startups are trying to take over the video sharing market and to bring back the site that was once Youtube. Money makes the world go round, but when it gets so beyond control it starts leaving its origin and roots. We’ve seen this happen with almost every company that’s big now. Google (which owns Youtube) went from being a mere search engine to the god of the internet. With infinite power nothing stays constant.
Perhaps it’s a part of becoming big, perhaps it’s a necessary evil without which society (the online kind) will not and can not prevail. Youtube does provide entertainment and means of living to countless people, but it can never be the Youtube everyone once adored, now it’s just a necessity none of us can live without.
I digress, add your thoughts on how you feel about this below.
Youtube recently introduced it’s new proposed layout, codenamed Cosmic Panda which brings with it a radically redesigned new UI and a bunch of new features. Â AS tempting as that may be, it is ridden with a slew of bugs, which is to be expected since it is still in beta. Tempted by these new features, I decided to change to the new layout, however, I could not bear to use it with all the bugs and I was searching for a way to revert back just after a few days.
The following is a guide on how to revert back to Youtube’s  old layout from Cosmic Panda.
1. Make sure you are logged into your Youtube account.
2. Go to the Youtube Cosmic Panda Page.
3. Press the Older version link as shown in the screenshot below.
First of all, this tutorial is only for videos that allow sharing or using their audio, be sure to ask for permission from the channel’s owner before doing so.
This is going to be an easy tutorial on how to download or extract audio from any Youtube video. There are a lot of programs (shareware and free) out there which can make this happen, but why waste time installing them when there are perfectly awesome programs online! I’ve collected a list of good websites that let you download audio from any Youtube video.
1. Media Converter
Hands down THE best Youtube audio downloader out there. In addition to the simple processes, this online conversion program also packs a plethora of features from uploading files to converting from one format to another. A must-try.
This is a much older and wiser online downloader. They give two options for audio, Standard Quality and High Quality. They were one of the very few to actually start the Youtube audio downloading trend.
Following the footsteps of ListenToYoutube, this is a similar site that offers much of the same. Still in their beta phase and are rumoring some totally new features when they finally launch in a few months.
With a very obvious name and nothing special to offer apart from better load times than VidToMp3. Try them out if you get errors from the above mentioned websites.
A word of caution, all of these websites have a few flaws. Sometimes, the audio only downloads halfway and stops. I noticed special issues with VidToMp3 when the downloaded audio was extremely low quality. Try using them on your own and report any issues on their respective websites.Do remember to read their terms and conditions before downloading anything.
