Uber Plans Zipline Drone Delivery Launch in Dallas-Fort Worth

Uber and Zipline will begin drone-based Uber Eats deliveries in Dallas-Fort Worth later this year, starting a partnership that adds aerial service to the food-ordering platform. Uber also said it has made a strategic investment in California-headquartered Zipline, according to reports from Engadget and The Verge.

The companies plan to take the service from its opening market into additional cities. Zipline has operated drone deliveries in Texas since 2025, giving the project an existing operating presence in the state before the Uber Eats launch begins.

Uber is aiming for one million drone deliveries a day

Uber has set a target of one million drone deliveries each day by 2029. That figure puts the Zipline agreement at the center of a broader logistics push, rather than treating Dallas-Fort Worth as an isolated test of aircraft delivery.

The goal matters because other delivery companies are also increasing their use of drones, while regulatory changes let operators fly longer distances at lower cost. Those shifts affect whether operators can build networks that handle enough orders to justify the infrastructure required for routine aerial drop-offs.

For Uber, the partnership creates a route to add drone service through a company already active in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth will serve as the first market for the collaboration, and the planned expansion means its performance will shape a larger rollout beyond the region.

Key commercial and launch details remain undisclosed

Uber and Zipline have not disclosed the investment amount or ownership terms. They also have not identified an exact launch date, participating merchants or restaurants, or the number and locations of future cities. Uber has yet to explain how it plans to count and reach its one-million-per-day delivery target by 2029.
