Mattel is releasing a $330 Brick Shop building set based on Microsoft’s original Xbox. The 3,509-piece package recreates the console at 1:1 scale and includes a replica of the Duke controller, according to reports from VGC and Engadget.
The set expands Mattel’s Brick Shop line, its range of construction-brick products. It packages a display model of the 2001-era machine with a controller build and three smaller game-inspired dioramas.
A full-size tribute to Microsoft’s first console
Mattel designed the console model to match the size of the original hardware rather than producing a scaled-down desk ornament. That makes the finished build a substantial display piece, particularly for collectors who remember the oversized black-and-green system and its equally large Duke pad.
The controller does more than sit beside the console. Mattel says the Duke replica can interact with the three included dioramas, giving the package an element beyond a static hardware recreation. The company has not identified the games or themes those scenes represent.
The original Xbox occupies a distinct place in gaming history as Microsoft’s first console. A detailed brick version turns that hardware into a collectible aimed at people who associate the platform with the company’s entry into the living-room gaming market, while putting it alongside brick-built models of other pop-culture objects.
The price puts this firmly in collector territory
At $330, the kit costs far more than a casual construction toy. Its 3,509-piece count, life-size console format, controller, and display scenes position it for adult builders and Xbox memorabilia collectors with room to exhibit the completed model.
That pricing also reflects a broader market for licensed nostalgia products, where recognizable hardware can draw interest long after its retail life ends. Mattel’s approach combines a console replica with interactive display elements instead of selling the machine alone.
Mattel has not specified a release date, where the Brick Shop product will be available, or which retailers will carry it. The company also has not named the three game-inspired dioramas, leaving the exact scope of the themed content unconfirmed.
