Apple is reportedly preparing an updated 24-inch iMac with Apple’s M6 processor for release before the end of the year. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the machine is nearing launch and would succeed the M4-based version Apple introduced in October 2024.
The update is also expected to add colors beyond the existing selection. The current computer comes in seven shades: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.
An M6 refresh would follow a two-year gap
The expected release would arrive roughly two years after Apple’s last update to this desktop line. That timing matters for shoppers who have held off on buying the current M4 model, since a purchase made late in the cycle could soon be overtaken by a newer processor generation.
Apple’s colorful 24-inch computer remains its only current all-in-one desktop. More color choices could widen an element of the product’s appeal that has been part of the design since Apple moved the line to its slim, Apple silicon-era chassis.
The OLED model remains a longer-term project
Apple is also reportedly working on a separate 24-inch all-in-one with an OLED display, though that product is not expected for several years. The M6 machine appears to be the near-term update for buyers who want Apple’s current desktop format without waiting for a larger screen technology change.
Apple has not confirmed the revision, its exact launch date, or its price. It is also unclear which additional colors the company may offer, whether the display will change, and what memory, port, or other specification options will accompany the M6 chip. Gurman’s report indicates that Apple does not plan substantial exterior design changes for this version.
