Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Is A Smash Success

Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which opened last week, has created a new worldwide opening record by making a mammoth $382.4 million in its opening week. This record gross is 2nd to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and the first one this year next to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides $350 million opening.

It came close to breaking the foreign opening weekend record set by Pirates 4 but came short of $41 million despite both movies having premium 3D ticket prices. Pirates 4 made $260 million while Transformers 3 managed to gross $219 million.

It also created Independence Day weekend gross record by grossing $400+ million worldwide in just a week. It has just passed 9 days in theaters but has grossed more than 500+ million so far which breaks the record set by both Pirates movies(At World’s End and On Stranger Tides)

3D movies are increasing everyday, while Pirates 4 had less 3D ticket sales as compared to Transformers 3. The premium price of a 3D ticket which is more than a normal movie ticket is a large factor due to which we are seeing some blockbusters gross much more then their predecessor despite having a much more flawed story and presentation.

Transformers 3 gross stands at $511 million worldwide now. It has managed to gross $214 million in America alone along with $297 million from foreign markets. If it continues its pace like Pirates 4 on the foreign market, it won’t be surprising if we see it hitting $1 billion worldwide gross by the end of its run. See the launch trailer below.
