Apple Might Be Planning iOS 5 Update Over The Air (OTA)

Apple has always updated their iDevices through iTunes even for smaller updates like the recent 4.3.3 and 4.2.8 which fixed the location caching issue. According to 9to5Mac Apple is planning to release iOS 5 over-the-air for their iPhones on Verizon.

It’s highly unlikely for Apple to implement this since updates can be more 500MB and carriers obviously don’t want their networks to stress under these heavy downloads. They could try to update over Wi-Fi though but it could take a person a few hours on an open hotspot if he doesn’t have his own Wi-Fi. Having iTunes is a blessing in disguise in this case indeed.
