  • Leaked screenshots of Windows Phone 8 shows off new features

Microsoft will be publicly detailing its next version of Windows Phone, called Windows Phone 8 on the 20th of this month. And as its customary for all big events, some screen shots of what we’re expected to see have surfaced.

WP8 shots 720x287 Leaked screenshots of Windows Phone 8 shows off new features

The three screen shots show various new functionality. The first shows off the much awaited built in Skype integration. It can clearly be seen that Skype call is one of the contacting options for a specified contact. The second picture shows an incoming Skype call. Hopefully this built in Skype integration more than makes up for the lack of any real Skype app on the Windows Phone platform (no the official Skype app doesn’t qualify as a real app).

The second screen shot shows the new data management in Windows Phone 8. We’ve seen this feature built into Android 4.0 where it works really well and comes in extremely handy. Though the screen shot is not quite clear, I suppose the basic functionality is pretty much the same. You set your data cycle and data limit and let the app inform you if you’re nearing your limit. It looks as if there will be a live tile to go with it too. It shows the amount of data you have remaining in your account.

The third screenshot shows what looks like the camera app. It looks very basic. However the three dots on the top right might hide more advanced options. Nokia is set to bring in its imaging expertise in Windows Phone 8 so regardless of what this picture shows, expect great innovations in Windows Phone 8 in the camera department.

So are you excited about Windows Phone 8? I know I am. Windows Phone, though not at the level of Android and iOS, has serious potential to threaten the top dogs and can become a viable third eco system.

  • TF2: Meet The Pyro With Pyromania Update

A couple of days ago Valve released the Pyromania Update which features a lot of new content. This was bundled with the Meet The Pyro video which is the ninth video in the “Meet The Team” series. Long awaiting fans can now finally know as to how the world seems when looking from behind a gas mask.

With the Pyromania Update, Team Fortress 2 gets a brand new gameplay mode called Doomsday. The mode pits BLU against RED and teams will be delivering a suitcase of Astralium to American Monkeynaut Poopy Joe’s rocket, so he can blast off and hunt down Soviet space chimp Vladimir Bananas (I swear that I did not make that up).

In addition to the new mode the update also adds ten new weapons to the game. Valve also threw in a bonus, anyone who plays the game between now and July 5th will receive a brand new vintage item.

If all that wasn’t enough, Valve went on to announce their Source Filmmaker which will be released soon. All the nine Meet The Team videos have been made using this tool and if you’re interested in film making then you need to check this tool out. For now you can head on over to their official page and sign up for a beta invite.

You can check out the new Meet The Pyro video below. This marks the end of the “Meet The Team” videos for Team Fortress 2.

Time to go back to TF2 eh?

  • iPad mini rumored to be thinner than current iPad

It’s that time of the year again. We’re nearing the time when Apple announces new hardware for the tech world. While we already know of the iPhone 5, the new rumor going around the block recently is regarding the iPad mini. This iPad mini will pack in a 7.85-inch screen with the resolution of 1024×768. Now there are some new rumors regarding what to expect from this mystery device. These rumors are not specs, but design related.

ipad and mini ipad iPad mini rumored to be thinner than current iPad

The iPad mini will be as thin as the iPod touch 4G, giving the tablet a thickness of only 7.2mm. The current third generation iPad measures 9.4mm in thickness so this is a substantial decrease in fat. This is even thinner than the Kindle Fire. According to reports the design of this mini iPad will be borrowed heavily from the iPod touch. Height wise it’s comparable to the Nexus 7 but it is wider. That is because of the aspect ratio Apple uses on its device screens.

Certainly some interesting numbers regarding dimensions. The throwback to the old iPod touch design will be a change from the aluminum ridden 10-inch iPads. That being said the mirror finish on the iPod touch is very scratch prone so I hope Apple does something about this issue. The rest of the looks should be the same as the bigger iPad

iPad mini, if real, should see the light of day this fall. The unveiling will occur alongside iPhone 5 so it should be an event worth watching. The iPad mini is rumored to fall under the 200-250$ price range which makes this a direct competitor of the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire somewhat. There is still plenty of time to Fall 2012 which gives Google a few months advantage to further strengthen its tablet.
