Google Meet has begun extending its Take Notes for me feature to conversations held in person. The capability, which Google previewed in April, is rolling out across Android devices, the web version of Google Meet and iOS.
Take Notes for me produces notes from meeting discussions. With this update, Google Meet can process conversations that take place face to face, expanding the feature beyond meetings conducted entirely online.
Google Meet takes its note feature beyond video calls
Google Meet has primarily served as Google’s videoconferencing product, giving people a way to hold discussions through online calls. The new capability brings its note-taking function into a different setting: meetings where attendees are in the same room.
That expansion matters for people and organizations that already use Google Meet as part of their meeting workflow. They can use the feature for discussion notes when a meeting happens in person instead of moving between separate tools based on where participants are located.
Google’s rollout covers its major access points. Android users, people using Meet in a web browser and iPhone or iPad users are included in the expansion, though Google has not provided a timetable for when the feature will reach each user.
Key availability and consent questions remain
Google has not identified which Google Workspace plans, account types or regions can use Take Notes for me during in-person meetings. The company also has not explained whether meeting participants must provide consent before Google Meet processes a face-to-face discussion.
Those details will determine how broadly the capability can be used, particularly for workplaces with rules around meeting records and discussion privacy. For now, Google has confirmed the central change: Take Notes for me is moving beyond online calls and into in-person meetings.
