  • Update To iOS 5.0.1 before It’s Too Late

After several months of patience, iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for iDevices was released although it was only compatible with A4 iDevices while jailbreak for A5 devices is still under process.

However it doesn’t look like that jailbreak for A4 devices will last longer. Jailbreak developer’s has stated that Apple has patched the Corona exploit, which was used for successful untethered jailbreak, in their latest iOS 5.1 ( iOS 5.1 Beta 3).

iOS 5.1 is still in beta but it wont be long when the proper release would be Live because three beta versions of iOS 5.1 have already released.

Pod2g, a famed iOS developer found a bug in iOS 5 which he believed can be used for a successful jailbreak for A4 devices, so Corona 5.0.1 untether was introduced. Apple has patched this bug because of which iOS 5.1 is no more at risk by Corona. This news is not confirmed by a Dev team member but it’s better to be on the safe side. So you should update your iDevice on iOS 5.0.1 before it’s too late.

Whenever a new firmware is released, Apple stop’s signing the older firmware version and also doesn’t verify the older firmware while updating or restoring your iDevice. Those people who own iPhone 4s or iPad 2 and plan for a jailbreak in the future, make sure your iDevice is on iOS 5.0.1 because you would have no more access to iOS 5.0.1 as soon as iOS 5.1 is released.

  • Dial Directly From Notification Center With NCInstaCall

The Notification Center was introduced in Apple’s latest mobile operating system – iOS and since then developers have released countless tweaks for it, almost all of which are jailbreak only, NCInstaCall is one such tweak.

NCInstaCall is a jailbreak tweak that allows iOS 5 user to make calls directly from the notification center. This tweak was launched by keeping the fact in mind that the notification center is accessible from anywhere in iOS 5, so this tweak save you some seconds before attempting a phone call.

The use of this tweak is really easy. Once installed, just head over to your Settings app and enable the NCInstaCall widget in the Notifications panel. Now open up notification center, here you can see a bar named NCInstaCall just tap it and dial your desired number.

NCInstaCall  is available on Cydia for free under BigBoss repository.

Instructions to install this tweak are:

Step 1. Go to Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone.

  • [How To] Make An Awesome Welcome Tab For Your Facebook Page

This will be a very simple yet elegant tutorial on how to create an awesome tab for your Facebook Page to welcome your fans. This is going to be the first thing a non-fan will see so make it count. Pages are coming with all sorts of crazy creative tabs to impress people enough to click on that magical Like button. This is one of three tutorials, here I will explain adding a simple single image welcome tab to your fanpage.

Take your favorite image editor (cough*Photoshop*cough) and create a kick-ass image for your lovely users to see, it can be as long as you want it to be (no pun intended) but the width HAS to be within 500 pixels. Some people suggest 530 px but to be on the safe side keep it within 500. Consult the awesome image below:

Once your uber-awesome image is ready, it’s time for some coding (not really).

Open up Facebook.com and search for FBML in the search box, the one you’re looking for is this one:

Click on Static FBML and add it to your page by clicking on “Add To My Page” as shown below:

Add this to the page you prefer and open up your page on Facebook, click on “Edit Page” and go to Apps on the left hand side:

In the Apps tab, go down to Static FBML and click on “Go To App” and you’ll see a panel similar to the one below, add your welcome page title in “Box Title” and a code to show the image:

The code you are going to add is the following:

    <center><img src=”IMAGE URL HERE” width=”500″></center>

Replace “IMAGE URL HERE” with a valid link to your image hosted elsewhere.

Now we want anyone who visits your page for the first time and hasn’t liked it yet to see this tab first, for that to work we need to set a new landing tab. Go back to Edit Page and open the “Manage Permissions” tab, in the “Default Landing Tab” select your newly created tab:

And that’s all there is to it! Your fresh new welcome tab is ready to be seen by your fans and non fans alike. There is an alternate to this method which uses two images to display, one for the people who have already liked you and one for the non-fans. I will write another tutorial on it soon. Do leave your comments below. Thank you for reading.

  • How Important Is Social Media Marketing In 2012?

We are living in a new age of media where Facebook and Twitter are ruling the charts. Where terms like “Facebook me” and “tweet” become a part of the common lingo. No one can afford to be absent in these mediums if they want to stay on track with the rest of the world. When I first started out, things like Facebook and Google Plus were non-existent, we had a social networking site called “Orkut” at that time, it was pretty famous among the young people and it was beaten by Myspace soon after.

But even then these websites didn’t matter that much regarding business and marketing. Nowadays, blogs without social existence are deemed to be archaic, living in the old days still lingering for dear life. If you own a blog/website, it is VITAL to have a strong social existence, which means having fans on Facebook and followers on Twitter, but social media marketing is not cheap in any way.

Facebook ads are expensive on their own, people resort to hiring marketing firms and companies to make their Facebook Pages big and powerful. Social media is one of the major pillars of online success now and will only get stronger and stronger as time progresses. We see new start-ups like Google Plus, ready to take over Facebook and other websites.

Social marketing has its own market and without it people would lose their jobs. Big websites have fan pages containing hundreds of thousands of fans willing to visit any link or comment on any post published on that page. In the olden days, we had to rely on SEO and SERP for traffic and such, now all you need is a big and active fanpage with decent enough followers to like your content.

There are a number of good engagement marketing companies out there. Do your research, try them out and make sure you become active in these places if you haven’t been in the past, because hate it or love it Social Media is here to stay.

  • Enhance Your iDevice’s Mail App With “AllMail”

“AllMail” is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to enhance the edit options on your stock Mail app. Even though the iOS 5 has added quite a few features to theMail app, using “AllMail” is like nothing you’ve experienced before.

With the help of “AllMail” you can gain access to some settings like select all, move all, mark all, delete all and last but not least hide all your emails with a password, which is a great feature.

By means of mark all, you can actually mark all as read, unread, flag or unflag which I believe should have been there in the first place. You can also access the password protection from settings panel.

“AllMail” is available on Cydia for $1.5 under BigBoss repository.

Instructions to install this tweak are:

Step 1. Go to Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone.

Step 2. Search for “AllMail” under BigBoss repository.

Step 3. Install the tweak and Restart SpringBoard.

  • The Most Essential Software Selection For Any PC

Ah bliss, sheer bliss, the time when we install fresh new copies of Windows and see how simple and elegant our computers are. Only to be suddenly attacked by a horde of nasty viruses and malware, performance starts becoming sloppier by the minute, internet speeds keep deprecating, and it’s back to square one – sheer bliss! Every computer needs a good assortment of software to be able to survive for vast periods of time. Heck, I still have the same Windows 7 installed which came with the PC! It’s because the software I chose to install (AND NOT INSTALL) on my computer has helped it be healthy for more than a year now.

Following is my personal list of the software I use on my computer, some are shareware but majority of them are free. Check it out as we go one by one according to the following sections:

    1.SECURITY

For protection against threats and malicious activity, I use the following three products:

    1. For Viruses – Avast Antivirus

Avast Antivirus has made my favorites’ list after much testing and competing. This software is free forever, of course it has a premium version with added features, but the free version has worked just fine for me! It has a pretty awesome detection rate and seriously makes sure your PC stays a 100%.

    Get it at: www.Avast.com

    2. For Spyware – Malwarebytes AntiMalware

Yes, THIS is THE best antispyware product out there! I have tried them all, Spyware Doctor, SpySweeper, CounterSpy, Viper, ALL OF THEM! But MalwareBytes comes out on top on account of being extremely light on RAM usage and extremely effective in detections. It has a paid version which enables the monitoring system but I personally use the free version.

    Download it from: www.Malwarebytes.org

    3. For USB Protection – USB Disk Security

How many people remember using “that one friend’s USB” and soon after experiencing a Windows error or total crashing of the operating system? It has happened many a times with me, especially when I plug my own USB at school and put it back in my own PC. Your USB can be your worst enemy, of course the new Sandisk USBs out right now has U3 which can operate portable antiviruses on its own. Usb Disk Security has been the best help ever. It is a USB firewall for your computer which stops autoplaying of the USB and scans it completely before letting your PC use it. It does have a trial version which expires soon after, I use the paid version which costs around $55 for a lifetime license.

    Get it here: www.zbshareware.com

That is all for the security, your PC is virtually impenetrable now!

Pro-Tip: ALWAYS keep your security products up-to-date, when Avast or Malwarebytes nag you about updating the virus definitions, DO IT! They’re nagging you for a reason, for your own safety.

    2.PERFORMANCE

Computers require a very maintained and clean environment to function at optimum speeds. There are a number of software out there which help you maintain just that, but there is one which comes on top of our list.

    Tune-Up Utilities

This software always brings a smile to my face when it shows me that “Green Arrow” that my PC is at optimum performance. It has that famous One-Click Maintenance which scans the entire computer and cleans any dirt it might have in the registry or anywhere else. The latest version, 2011, also has a Turbo Mode for that tough time when you’ve opened up 20 tabs in your browser and Photoshop and Flash and more heavy software! This product is not free, but it can be tried without limitations for 30-days.

    Get it here: www.Tune-Up.com

Pro-Tip: Even though Tune-Up has a hard disk defragment option and there are thousands of other defragmentation products out there, I will always recommend USING WINDOWS DEFAULT DEFRAGMENTATION system for maximum results.

Just keep using Tune-Up on a weekly basis and you will never use the term “SPEED THE F*CK UP!!!” to your monitor screen ever again.

    3. BROWSING

Here’s where the flame wars start. I have a group of friends who love each other but hate each others’ browsers. There are two market leaders right now, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Now the thing is, both of these browsers represent different things, Firefox is more of a heavier browser, has a bigger addon library and is designed more for the power user! Chrome is a very light browser, doesn’t have as big a library as Firefox but still has sufficient addons and options. Chrome even has many Google features pre-installed such as Translator and such. Now, both of these browsers are awesome, so which one to choose?

I go with Google Chrome. The idea here is to make the PC happy, and Firefox uses too much memory (RAM) for our purpose. Don’t get me wrong, I love Firefox too. But Chrome just wins when it comes to being fast and light.

    4. DOWNLOAD MANAGER

I still have those “tech-impaired friends” in college who use the default browser download manager. It is a given, browser downloaders are NOT download managers! If you want to utilize every last KB of your internet speed, you need to use a download manager. Download Accelerator used to rule these parts a decade ago, but is now a dead product. The one I recommend, and million others too is:

    Internet Download Manager (IDM)

IDM is an amazing piece of work, I have a 4MB internet connection right now, and IDM makes sure I get all of or close to 400 kbps when I download anything. Compare this to the default browser downloader, it gives me 40-50kbps max. IDM is not free, but getting the license is totally worth it, it is a one-time fee of $30 and you’re all set. You can, however, try it for 30-days If you like.

    Get it here: www.InternetDownloadManager.com

And you’re done, you now have a powerhouse of a PC!

The Golden Rule: KEEP EVERYTHING UP-TO-DATE!

Pro-Tip: I personally never update my Windows, I believe updating Windows just makes it heavier and more sluggish.

Now that we’re done with the utilities, let’s move on to the media side! Audio and Video players.

     5. For Music – AIMP Audio Player

AIMP is a Russian piece of engineered work. It is the lightest and most efficient audio player I’ve ever used. It is totally free and has a nice collection of skins and addons. The player’s interface is pretty tweak-friendly and can be embedded anywhere in Windows.

    Download it here: www.Aimp.ru

    6. For All Video Formats & DVD – HomeCinema

There are so many video formats to play, RM, Quicktime, WMV, MKV, AVI, the list goes on. There are plenty of programs that can be used for each format one by like, most people still use Real Player, this article is targeted to having a lighter more efficient PC so I would give my own personal recommendation. I use HomeCinema, a totally free and awesome video player that would play every video format known to man. It comes pre-installed with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Stray far away from installing stand-alone programs and just use this bundle.

    Download from: www.codecguide.com

And that’s it, your PC is fully functional and highly efficient now.

    Final Thoughts

Technology is not without flaws. Computers are meant to die after a certain time of usage and it’s normal if the computer starts getting sluggish after 2-3 years of use, it’s probably time to get a new processor anyway. But this article will make sure your computer performs well for the maximum amount of time possible by its hardware.

Here are some final tips for the road:

    • Always keep your desktop clean, the more icons it has the slower it’ll be.
    • Limit the amount of programs launching at the startup.
    • Avoid installing useless programs of little value.
    • Always clean your PC externally, don’t let dust settle in the CPU.
    • Make sure the wiring is safe and renewed after every six months to ensure maximum security.
