  • Verizon Hints At A Global iPhone 5 With LTE Support

Hardly a week goes by without an iPhone 5 or 4S rumor hitting the news. Verizon CFO Fran Shammo claimed last month that the iPhone 5 will have global roaming, today in a fresh interview with Reuters is back again strengthening him claim regarding the existence of an universal radio for the next iPhone. He even went as far as to claim possible LTE support but we think that Apple might hold it off for the iPhone 6.

Shammo claims that the lackluster sales of the Verizon iPhone 4 were because the phone was almost the same as the AT&T iPhone 4 and didn’t offer the customers enough of a reason to warrant the purchase, offering LTE in the next iPhone could change that. He also claims since the iPhone 5 will be coming to both AT&T and Verizon at the same time they wouldn’t be at a disadvantage since their device would support global roaming.

  • How To: Watermark a Logo Onto a Video

So you have an exclusive video that you want to Watermark in order to stop other people from stealing your work. If you are a blog/tech/gaming site then you will also need to Watermark your Videos.

See the full guide after the break.

First of all you need to get the video editor which we will use for Watermarking our logo. Virtual Dub is a free video editor which offers a wide variety of options for video editing and to top it all it is totally free.I have set up Virtual Dub completely with the plugins required to play the necessary video format and for Watermarking logo.

    Download Virtual Dub

So now you have got the video editor which we will use to Watermark our videos. We also need to have the necessary codecs installed to actually be able to play the videos. I will suggest 3 video packs here which will ensure almost 100% playback of all the known video formats. They are K-Lite Codec Pack, Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative. Install all three of them, or if you are skeptical then just install the K-Lite Codec Pack.

    Download K-Lite Codec Pack
    Download Real Alternative
    Download Quicktime Alternative

Ok, so we are setup with the basics. Now we will start with the actual process of Watermarking. I will be Watermarking a trailer of a video game which is in .mp4 format. Don’t worry, if you have installed every thing as i have recommended then you won’t have any trouble in playing the video.

Start Virtual Dub and you will be greeted with this screen.

Don’t worry, it is not as complicated as it may look. Click on file and then click on open video file. A new window will pop up. Now it is important to mention that there are two steps involved here.

    1. If you are opening .avi, .mpg, .mpeg or any of the standard video format then just open the file as usual.

    2. If you are opening .mp4 files, especially the ones which you downloaded online in 720p HD or 1080p HD resolution. They will need a tiny bit of change. When opening such files, make sure to tick the box as shown in the picture below.

A new window will pop up after you click on open, in this window change the option as shown in screenshots.

After the video is open, we can start working on it. Click on file and then click on filter. Follow the instructions below as given in screenshots.

Click on browse and navigate and select your logo. Make sure that it is in .BMP format. Only .BMP format works, you can easily convert to .BMP format using either Paint or Photoshop.

A new window will pop up as shown below. You can see that it has got quite some options to tweak but its not complicated. First of all click on Show Preview button to get a preview of how your logo will look in the video. Adjust the X and Y slider to decide the position of your logo. The Alpha setting determines the opacity for the logo. The Transparent color tick box should be ticked as it will hide the background and make the text more prominent. Tinker with these setting until you are satisfied.

See the finalized setting in the screenshot below.

Now we are all done with setting up our filter. Now its time to start the actual encoding. Click on Video and then click on Compression.

You can select any of your preferred video codecs here, i recommended xvid as its the most mainstream video codec.

Just select the setting as shown. If you encoding 720p or 1080p videos and want no quality lose then these are the recommended settings. Otherwise select the ones you prefer.

Now the final step is finalize all this, click on File and click on Save as AVI.

Select the location to save your video file and a name for it and sit back and and relax as your video starts encoding.

If you have any questions or problems, feel free to ask in comments.

  • Droid X2 Dummies Arriving At Retailers, Launch Imminent

No Verizon still hasn’t made it official but it’s kinda obvious the Droid X 2 exists and is gonna be released very soon. A new image of a Droid X 2 dummy swarmed the Internet along with a Droid X. The Droid X 2 features a 4.3-inch qHD display, powered by a 1GHz dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and runs Android 2.3 Gingebread.

No other information has been provided yet. The price if you were wondering should be cheaper than those crazy LTE phones (Droid Charge I’m looking at you) at around $200. The original Droid X was one of Verizon’s top selling phones and was loved by critics and fans alike. Let’s hope this phone improves on the Droid X name.

  • Android Market Updated, Makes Finding The App You Need Easy

Google at their I/O keynote announced 5 new and awesome changes that would make the Android Market much better. These help finding the apps we need much easier.

New top app charts – We’ve revamped our top app charts to be fresher and country-specific, so you get the most current, relevant results. We’ve also added top new free, top new paid, and top grossing lists, all right on the Android Market home page.

Editors’ Choice – These are some of the very best apps available for Android, as chosen by the Android Market staff. They span everything from games to productivity and beyond.

Top Developers – We’re also recognizing those developers creating the highest quality, most popular, and most notable apps available on Android Market. They’ll get a special icon on our Android Market website, appearing wherever the developer name is shown, starting today for an initial set of over 150 developers.

Better related apps – On the left side of an app page, you’ll now see two groups of related apps: apps frequently browsed by people who viewed this app, and apps that people tend to install alongside this app. For example, people who view ScoreMobile, my favorite sports score app, often also view other sports score apps, while those who install ScoreMobile tend to also install apps for specific sports leagues or teams. We’ll also show you related apps once you decide to install an app.

Trending apps – Finally, we’ve added a new section to the Android Market homepage showing trending apps – those apps that are quickly growing in daily installs. Look here to stay ahead of the curve and find new apps as they get hot.

All of these features are currently available in the web market and are set to hit the mobile and tablet markets very soon.

  • Screenshots Of Sense 3.5 Running On HTC Bliss Leaked

Screenshots of HTC Sense 3.5 running on the upcoming ‘lady phone’ HTC Bliss have leaked on the Internet, so how does this differ from Sense 3.0?

Off the bat Sense 3.0 couldn’t run on single core phones (well not officially) because of all the flashy animations and eye candy but that changes with Sense 3.5 which is better optimized for both single and dual core phones.

The lockscreen stays mostly the same with the same wheel unlocking and shortcuts to your favorite applications. The lockscreen will now also show notifications for weather and other stats.

Widgets also get a refresh, being much polished this time. There are also a bunch of new HTC Sense exclusive widgets bundled with Sense 3.5, these widgets will be available in multiple sizes. Since Sense 3.5 is not gonna be limited to qHD screens anymore you can hide the lower portion of the UI and replace it with two buttons, one for your app drawer and the other for your phone to save screen real estate.

XDA.cn who got their hands on these screenshots first claim that this is just a BETA release and we can expect final version to be much more polished.

  • Radio Shack Getting Exclusive White HTC EVO 3D This September

Radioshack has announced that it will start selling a white variant of the HTC EVO 3D starting September 9th. We don’t have a quote on the price yet but we doubt it will be above the $200 price point Sprint is selling it for.

The phone is mostly white but the black bezel around then screen and the camera stay as they were. The ring of sort around the camera sensors is getting tricked out to a sliver color instead of red (Sprint version) or gold (GSM version).

  • Images Of The iPhone 5 Touch Screen Leaked? Has A Larger Screen And Enlongated Home Button

Wintek manufactured the iPhone 4′s touch screens for around a year and a half and now these recently leaked pictures from their workspace suggests they are working on the iPhone 5 too.

The pictures look similar to the typical iPhone design except that that the display is a bit bigger and the home button is a bit longer. According to the source these images were taken from the security cameras recently installed in the Wintek factory, well that’s quite a fail.

Recent rumors have suggested a gesture supporting home button so maybe they could be working on that. Don’t get your hopes too high though, these could easily be of any other phone which looks similar to the iPhone, and there are a lot of them.

  • Renderings of the iPhone 5 Based on Leaked Design Specs

CiccareseDesign has created high quality renderings of the iPhone 5 based on leaked case designs. Interestingly, at the time these design specifications were posted MacRumors said they “received a reliable tip that this is not what the iPhone 5 will look like.”

    The images after the break

The final dimensions of the new design are calculated to be: 4.33″ x 2.36″ and .27″ thickness at the top and .21″ at the bottom In comparison, the iPhone 4 dimensions are: 4.5″ x 2.31″ x .37″. So the new design is actually shorter than the existing iPhone 4, but slightly wider and thinner.
