  • Apple is Still Signing iOS 4.1 for iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 2G

Apple is reportedly still signing the SHSH blobs for iOS 4.1 on the iPhone 3GS and the iPod 2G, according to an iDB user.

I’ve found out awhile ago that Apple was still signing off firmware 4.1 for my 3GS , I’ve used SHSHit app to test this a few times now for the last 3 weeks and Apple is still signing it off..so if i’am right if you get a iPhone on 4.3.4/4.3.5 there is a very good chance that you could downgrade your device to 4.1 and have a untethered jailbreak..and you will be able to save those SHSH’s

This is great news for those users who are stuck with the tethered jailbreak on either 4.3.5 or 4.3.4. You will now be able to downgrade to the 4.1 and get yourself an untethered jailbreak, however Apple is only signing these firmwares for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G, no love for the rest of the devices. We will advise all users to backup their SHSH blobs as soon as possible if you haven’t already before the window closes.

  • iTunes 10.5 BETA 5 Download Now Available, Mandatory For iOS 5 BETA 5

Along with iOS 5 BETA 5 (which you can download here) iTunes BETA 5 too is now available for download. As you must know by that you need the latest BETAs of iTunes to sync with the latest BETAs of iOS 5.

Users who plan to update to iOS 5 BETA 5 should first instal it OTA (Over The Air) or through Apple’s Developers Channel and install it before installing iTunes 10.5 BETA 5 since this new version of iTunes won’t sync your devices which are on iOS 5 BETA 4 and older.

You can grab both iTunes 10.5 BETA 5, iOS 5 BETA 5 and all the other pre-release softwares from Apple’s Developer channel linked at the source below. You do need a $99 developer account to get access but the investment is worth it in our opinion.

  • How To: Play Games On Your Android Phone Using A PS3 SixAxis/DualShock 3 Controller

Playing with the onscreen controls are really hard and ever since we laid our hands on the Xperia Play we never wanted to go back. A new app in the Android market allows you to connect your PS3′s SixAxis or DualShock 3 controller to your Android phone and play games like they were meant to be played.

The app called SixAxis controller is developed by Dancing Pixel Studios and allows you to connect your PS3 controller to your Android phone through Bluetooth. The app can only be used on games that support key bindings for now, it also requires a rooted phone to work. A brief description taken from the developer’s website:

Sixaxis Controller is an Android application which allows the Sixaxis and DualShock 3 Playstation controllers to be used as bluetooth input devices on many mobile phones and tablets. This enables the ultimate gaming experience to be had in a completely portable form factor.

Up to four controllers are supported at once, and key mappings are completely configurable, as well as the analog sticks, which are currently emulated as digital key presses.

There’s a downside to this app though, it only works with a specific Bluetooth protocol which isn’t supported on most of the HTC and newer Samsung phones. The developers hence recommend using the app with the popular CyanogenMod ROM which is known to support that Bluetooth protocol.

Use the following guide to get the app up and running on your Droid.

    1. Download and install SixAxis Controller from the Android Market, download link is at the bottom of this post.
    2. Download and install SixAxis Pairing Tool from the download link at the end of this post.
    3. Launch the SixAxis Pairing Tool, it should then say “Current Master: Searching”
    4. Connect your controller to your computer using the supplied USB cable, SixAxis Pairing Tool should give you a address in the following format: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
    5. Now launch SixAxis Controller on your phone and navigate to the Local Bluetooth Address menu.
    6. Enter that address into the SixAxis Pairing Tool on your phone and click update.
    7. Disconnect your controller and hold down the PlayStation button which if everything is done right should connect it to your phone.
    8. Select Change Input Method on your phone and select your controller.

Following is a video of the app in action:

  • Official iPad Skype App Released, Pulled From App Store Shortly After. Update: It’s Back.

It’s been only a month since the video of the Skype iPad app leaked and now the app HAD hit the Apple App Store earlier today but was pulled shortly after.

Skype had the following to say:

To ensure your best Skype experience, we’ve temporarily removed Skype for iPad which went live prematurely today

What could be the reason behind the pull? Did Skype’s testers didn’t test the app properly and discovered a fatal flaw after release? Did they accidentally release the app like the video? Nobody knows.

The app brought instant messaging, video conferencing, and audio chats to the tablet natively. Skype also brought forth the ability to video chat using 3G which was unexpected really.

We’ll keep you posted if the download comes back.

    Update: It’s back.

  • How To: Encode HD Video For Windows Phone 7 Devices

One of the drawbacks of using an iPhone or Windows Phone 7 phone is that they rely too much on iTunes and Zune respectively. Users can only transfer music, video and pictures between their computer and phone using the said software. Zune and iTunes also convert files into a native format for you phone and it’s automatic so the quality isn’t always spectacular. Use the following guide to encode HD (720p or 1080p) videos manually for your Windows Phone 7 device.

It doesn’t really matter what video conversion program you use just use the following settings:

    • Video container: MP4
    • Video resolution: 800 x 480 (Since all WP7 phones currently use this resolution)
    • Video codec: H264 2 Pass
    • Video bitrate: 1200 kbps
    • Audio format: AAC Stereo
    • Audio bitrate: 128 kbps

These settings will ensure maximum video quality on your Windows Phone 7 phone.

We have already known about the official release date of PS Vita in Japan. Kaz Hirai revealed this release date on this year’s E3. PS Vita will officially launch in Japan on 12th December, 2011. Although we have known about the release date of Japan, there was no word on its launch in Europe and North America. Most people thought that it will launch on Q1, 2012. A press release from 505 games which were going to release Supermacy MMA on PS Vita hints at fall 2011 global launch. You can read the full press release below.
