  • HTC unveils One X, One S and One V

HTC’s press event at MWC is finally here and they have kept everyone busy with three new phones in the HTC One Series.

First off is the Tegra 3 powered HTC One X, previously rumored as the HTC Endeavor. The One X is at the top of the table with its 4.7″ SuperLCD 2 HD screen. It has 1GB of RAM with 32GB of onboard storage, however there is no microSD card slot. HTC has teamed up with DropBox to provide 25GB of storage for two years for the owners of these new devices. The HTC One X runs on Ice Cream Sandwich with Sense 4.0 on top. HTC has put a lot of focus on its camera and has revealed its own sensor called ‘ImageChip’ and the HTC One X comes with an 8MP snapper with 1080p video recording. The front facing camera is also quite capable with 1.3Mp and 720p video. For connectivity there is NFC, Bluetooth 4 and MHL port for USB and HDMI connections. Powering this mighty phone will be an 1800 mAh battery.

The US version of the One X will be available exclusively on AT&T with LTE. However the processor is replaced by an Snapdragon S4 dual-core chip.

Next in line is the HTC One S which is dual-core device. The phone is quite slim with 7.8mm waist. The One S sports a 4.3 inch Super AmoLED screen . It also runs on ICS with Sense 4.0 on top of it. Total user storage is decreased to 16GB and like the One X, this also doesn’t have a microSD card slot. The phone will have 1GB of RAM. In the imaging department, this phone sports the same front and back sensors as its bigger brother, 8MP back camera with 1080p video recording and 1.3MP front camera with 720p video. There is no NFC while rest of the connectivity features are there with the One S.The battery underneath One S has 1650 mAh of power. The One S looks quite beautiful with its Aluminum unibody.

The last of the trio is HTC One V which is the lower end model for the masses. This one sports a single core 1GHz Snapdragon S2 processor with 512 MB of RAM. It has a 3.7″ WVGA LCD. Total user storage is just 4GB however this can be increased as the One V comes with a microSD card slot. Fortunately the HTC One V also runs on ICS with Sense 4.0. It packs a 5MP camera with 720p video recording but there is no front facing camera on this one. The microUSB port is the standard one and not MHL so HDMI is out of the equation. The One V will be powered by 1500 mAh of battery.

  • The Big Facebook Change – Timeline Update

It is finally happening, Facebook is going Timeline! Facebook is finally rolling the Timeline update to all of their users. Just this evening, I was browsing my profile when this nice little update appeared on top.

Facebook Timeline Ali Khan 720x173 The Big Facebook Change Timeline Update

As we reported earlier, Facebook will be making Timeline mandatory to everyone. Even if you’re not a fan of people stalking you and having a “Cover” image, you’re going to have to learn to live with the change as it’s going to be forced on every user. This is by far the biggest change Facebook has ever had.

This could be pretty bad for the people who have always been against this new change, but like every other Facebook update in the past people will learn to like it eventually.

Get ready for Timeline, or don’t. It’s coming either way.

  • TechDeville Partners Up With HomeShopping

It’s a glorious day for everyone here at TechDeville, we are finally bringing change in our blogosphere in association with HomeShopping. After an entire year of blogging, reviewing, criticizing, and the rest, we have come to a point every new startup wishes to achieve. Seeing how the Pakistani Blogosphere is as narrow as ever, I personally wanted to team up with another big name in our IT Industry and bring change in the way we are perceived and connected with the rest of the world/blogging community. There are just a few hand-picked “bloggers” in Pakistan who conquer the ranks and deny access to anyone else willing to do something better than them or move our industry forward rather than just staying quietly at the same old pace of grabbing gadgets and writing a few words about them.

In my personal quest to do something different, I needed ample supply of products at will. In order to make that happen, TechDeville needed the support of a major vendor or distributor of gadgets and other tech-related items. Since HomeShopping is owned by a guy my age, I thought it would be better to talk to him about it, the rest of the companies are owned by over-aged men who know less about the products they’re selling than the janitors who work at their stores. So I emailed him, Shayaan Tahir, the proposal for teaming up and bringing change to the way our people (Pakistanis) see the IT industry.

A week later, we were sitting in the offices of HomeShopping and being amazed by the infinite supply of awesome opportunities we have in this direction. We are now the official media partners of HomeShopping, first order of business is to shoot the pilot of our web series (still untitled) and see how that goes. I know the importance of text in the world of blogging and I will continue to write normal reviews along with this, but with priority to the web series. Our first episode is to be shot this Saturday and is going to be all about the new XPERIA phones (excited).

We are also going to be taking requests and emails from our visitors, the whole idea behind this new series is to engage the youth with TechDeville. I’ve always wanted my blog to be different from the rest, and doing what everyone else was doing really wasn’t cutting it anymore. Here’s to a better experience and change. Kudos to HomeShopping.

  • SOPA – The Death Of The Internet As We Know It

Most of you probably know about “SOPA” by now, it’s been a good month or so since this ridiculous 47-pages long law was written. The law hasn’t passed yet but has enough support behind it to make it a reality. SOPA is short for “STOP ONLINE PIRACY ACT”, and it is one of the most aggressive and destructive anti-piracy laws ever made.

First off, watch the video below:

I speak for a lot of angry internet users when I say this, this law is the end of the internet. I’m not saying piracy shouldn’t be stopped, but there are a million other ways to do it rather than pressing the D-Day switch and ending the way people communicate. This law can potentially close down Facebook, Youtube and a lot of countless other social media sites out there. Justin Bieber became famous because of Youtube, when he sung his favorite songs and made videos of himself, this law makes it a crime to even sing your favorite songs because the songs belong to a record label and you’re infringing their copyrights by doing so. Search engines like Google and Bing aren’t safe either, for they will need to remove each and every infringing domain from their index. Google Search could just as easily be shut down if they don’t comply. Think of having an internet connection without Google, it’s just not going to work.

Big names like Google, Mozilla, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and many others are speaking against SOPA. There are countless famous Youtubers who are against this law and are siding with the people to defend the integrity of the internet. Piracy websites need to be stopped one by one, by a more subtle and non-aggressive method. This law gives authorities the power to have websites shut down if they don’t comply within 5 days even if they are not hosted on US soil. There have been plenty of anti-piracy laws in the past like the DMCA etc. but none of them are as aggressive or dangerous as this one.

There’s a slight chance of this bill not passing, but looking at the power behind it it just isn’t clear. We will keep you updated with how this pans out.

  • PS4 to hit the shelves in 2012?

Despite Sony’s complete dismissal of the entire PS4 debate, rumours have been quite rife around the internet regarding the next PlayStation outing. And with Nintendo launching their next console, and MS to reveal details about their next system come E3 next year, this whole PS4 scenario is debatable.

So to fan the rumour flames, DigiTimes has released a fresh report, stating that PS4 will be out sometime in 2012 packed with Kinect or Eye-toy like motion control functionality. And the teams leading the hardware manufacturing are Foxconn and Pegatron Technology.

Sony, despite being mum on the latest rumour, has dismissed them in the past that they are baking PS3 and the latest PS Vita for some time to come. If true, then the launch time could be around 2013/14 as suggested by gaming enthusiasts.

  • “No PlayStation 4 in Near future,” Jack Tretton

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has quelled any rising hopes for the successor to PS3. Chatting with Forbes, Jack made it clear that Sony has just begun fully ‘cashing in’ on PS3 market, and that the new console was a bit far off in the future.

“PlayStation 3 is really just hitting its stride,” Tretton said. “And technologically, I don’t think it’s possible to provide any advancement beyond what we have.”

“What we’ve seen from the competition is trying to add features that already exist in PlayStation 3,” he said.

“We invested heavily in that, we rolled a very heavy rock up a steep hill, through the launch period. But now I think that all pays off, and we’ve got a long run way behind it. So, I wouldn’t look for any discussion of a next generation PlayStation for quite some time.”

Skimming over the subject of Nintendo’s Wii’s successor Wii U, Tretton expressed that the new console does not have anything dramatically different to offer to push the company to rush for a new hardware release.

“I think there’s ground to be carved out for everybody. But I didn’t see anything about Nintendo’s announcement that said ‘Oh, we’d better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon.’

“Our attitude is kind of ‘welcome to the party.’ If you’re looking at being a multimedia entertainment device, if you’re looking at high def gaming, that was 2006 for us,” he concluded.
