  • Juicy details about Galaxy S III Mini surface ahead of tomorrow’s launch

Right after we told you about Samsung releasing a ‘mini’ version of its Galaxy S III smartphone tomorrow in an event the company is holding in Germany, the renders, specs, and pricing details have been leaked over the internet. Samsung Galaxy S III mini, that according to a Samsung official will be a high-end device was expected to feature similar specs as its bigger brother (the Galaxy S III) but that seems not to be the case as the leaked details posted by MobileGeeks suggest otherwise.

Juicy details about Galaxy S III Mini surface ahead of tomorrows launch

Galaxy S III mini according to the report by MobileGeeks will feature a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. Unlike original Galaxy S III the mini version will have a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 5-megapixel rear camera with flash, front VGA camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HSPA support and more. The phone is rumored to be priced at 399 euros.

While many Android fans were hoping that this 4-inch Galaxy S III mini will outclass iPhone 5 with its Galaxy S III like internal specs, many are disappointed by MobileGeeks’ report and are hoping that the rumor turns out to be untrue. We will know about the authenticity of this report and more about what Samsung has in store for us tomorrow.

  • Google is now rolling out Android 4.1.2 update for Nexus 7

Google has announced on its official Android building group that the Android 4.1.2 update for Nexus 7 tablet will roll out to the users today. The update that is termed as ‘minor’ brings several performance and stability improvements to the tablet. Android 4.1.2 also fixes several bugs that were reported by many users and devs. Along with the improvements to the software this update also adds a new landscape mode on the Nexus 7 home screen. While Android 4.1.2 is an incremental update, it certainly brings Nexus 7 and us one step closer to Android 4.2 update.

Android 4.1.2 update is rolling out to users steadily and it may take some time for it to reach a tablet near you. There have been reports from many Australian users about this new update becoming available on their devices. I have attached two images that show the landscape home screen and about page of the new build.

  • 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro on track for 2012 launch

One of the main announcements at WWDC earlier this year was the new Retina MacBook Pro. With 2880 x 1800 resolution over a 15 inch screen, the Retina MacBook Pro set the bar up so high for laptop displays, that it’s yet to be surpassed. It all comes at a price though. With starting price at $2100 and sized at 15 inch, the Retina MacBook is not for everyone. What everyone does wish for is a 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro. Something equally as impressive, but more portable.

Reports are now coming in that Apple is manufacturing just that. Research firm NPD DisplaySearch says that Apple will unveil a 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro before the end of this year. The resolution on this laptop will be 2560 x 1600 which is exactly twice that of the current MacBook Pro. There has been high speculation about the possibility of a 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro right after the 15 inch version at WWDC. It’s not known at this point whether this will just be a display upgrade or will Apple pack in higher end hardware and streamline the chassis. What’s even more important is how Apple plans on pricing this laptop.

After a 13 inch Retina MacBook Pro, will Apple kill off the current Pro version or the Air?

  • Apple’s Lightning connector authentication chip is cracked

The launch of iPhone 5 brought in many new features, but perhaps the one that has gotten the widest coverage is the new lightning connector. Apple shrunk the 30 pin connector to nearly one-fifth its size and effectively made more than a million accessories incompatible with iPhone 5. But they did promise to provide an adaptor, which is now shipping. There’s a catch though, for now the $30 adaptor from Apple was the only way to go because Apple included a Lightning connector authentication chip. This Lightning connector authentication chip ensured no 3rd party adaptors were possible. Until now.

lightningdockhack Apples Lightning connector authentication chip is cracked

Chinese hackers from iPhonemold.com have been able to crack whatever this Lightning connector authentication chip was protecting and as a result have been able to make a Lightning cable that does exactly what the official Apple cable does. They’ve gone one step further and made the cable illuminate when its connected. The iPhone 5 dock and Lightning cable for $19,90 each, or you can buy both as a package for $39.90.

With the Lightning connector authentication chip cracked it opens doors for cheap third party vendors to provide cost effective solutions for those people who do not want to spend another $30 to use accessories that they could before for free.

  • Apple now shipping 30 pin to Lightning adapters

There’s a lot to love about the new iPhone 5. The slim and sleek design with the beautiful aluminium back, the larger Retina Display and the fast A6 chip. However one big change Apple made with iPhone 5 was the new Lightning connector. New connector means all accessories made for the iPhone that used the old 30 pin connector will no longer be compatible with the new iPhone 5, and that’s a lot of accessories.

Fortunately for buyers of iPhone 5 Apple promised the availability of 30 pin to Lightning adaptors. Initially it was rumoured that these would be free of cost bundled with the iPhone 5. But free of cost has never been Apple’s thing and as a result the 30 pin to Lightning adapters were available for $29 on Apple’s website. Those who ordered are now receiving confirmation of shipping directly from Apple. That means they’re available for purchase and delivery as of now. The email above is from Apple in Australia but availability should be world wide.

At this point it’s advisable to buy from Apple only as reports of 3rd party 30 pin to Lightning adapters not being compatible with the iPhone 5 have recently surfaced. The $30 adaptor with a short cable is also available for purchase and delivery.

  • Apple begins shipping first orders of 5th gen iPod touch

Alongside the new iPhone 5, another big announcement by Apple last month was the new iPod touch. Unlike the previous iterations, the 5th gen iPod touch has gone through a major redesign. For the first time Apple has made it available in several striking and bold looking colours. It’s also got the hardware to back it up. With a larger 4 inch screen to the A5 chipset, the 5th gen iPod touch certainly is right up there with the best media players.

Those who ordered it right after the announcement are now getting confirmation from Apple about shipping and delivery. Apple is now shipping orders of the 5th gen iPod touch, as well as the new iPod nano, with delivery expected early next week. The image above is an email from Apple regarding the shipment notice of a 5th gen iPod touch that was ordered in the United States. People from other countries are also reported to have received similar notices. This is only a day after Apple started shipping the 30 pin to Lightning adaptor.

There are also rumours about limited supply of 5th gen iPod touch at the beginning, but that’s normal for any Apple device launch and will probably be rectified within no time.

  • Apple orders 10M units of iPad mini according to WSJ

When Tim Cook claimed that Apple is doubling down on secrecy, apparently that didn’t apply to the iPad mini. Rumours of this iPad mini have been flying high for a few months but now that the dust has settled on the iPhone 5 launch, recently they’ve become stronger with realistic claims.

12.10.04 iPadmini 5 446x480 Apple orders 10M units of iPad mini according to WSJ

Now Wall Street Journal is claiming that reports have come in about a possibility of Apple ordering nearly 10 million units of iPad mini. This is only  a week after WSJ reported that production has already begun. The expected release date for iPad mini is in the 2nd or 3rd week of October. Apple is suppose to send invitations on the 10th of this month. We’re already in the 2nd week so for all we know we might get to see the actual product in flesh in less than a week.

With 10 million units it looks as if Apple is confident of initial preorders and sales. It will however face very tough competition from Android tablets like the new Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7. It will all come down to what kind of hardware Apple packs in the iPad mini and most importantly, how they price it.

  • No new characters for PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale

It has been revealed that no new characters will be announced for the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. This was confirmed in a twitter post by the PlayStation Blog senior social media specialist, Sid Shuman. His tweet said “We have revealed the full launch lineup of characters,” confirming that All-Stars will ship with 20 fighters.”

allstars No new characters for PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale

Therefore, you’ll have these twenty characters to play with:

    1. Big Daddy
    2. Cole MacGrath
    3. Evil Cole MacGrath
    4. Colonel Radec
    5. Dante
    6. Fat Princess
    7. Heihachi Mishima
    8. Jak and Daxter
    9. Kratos
    10. Nariko
    11. Nathan Drake
    12. PaRappa the Rapper
    13. Raiden
    14. Ratchet and Clank
    15. Sackboy
    16. Sir Daniel Fortesque
    17. Sly Cooper
    18. Spike
    19. Sweet Tooth
    20. Toro

I personally think that twenty characters is enough for a game, yet the lack of Metal Gear Solid’s Snake is quite unnerving. However, do note that more characters will be revealed in the future as DLC. Maybe we’ll see him then.

  • Mass Effect Trilogy Set Announced

Aren’t we seeing lots of collections lately? The God of War Saga, inFamous Collection and Ratchet and Clank Collection were just the start. Here is a great collection, made by a company other than Sony, that I’m sure will be greatly appreciated, especially by the PS3 community.

Bioware has announced a Mass Effect Trilogy Set that will be releasing on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3. This set will include all three Mass Effect games. Yes, you read it right. All three games, which means that Mass Effect 1 will be making an appearance on the PlayStation 3 for the first time. Also, Mass Effect 1 will be released separately on the PlayStation Network. And yes, trophy support is included.

Unfortunately, a date for the PS3 version has not been given. The Set will release on November 6th for the Xbox 360 and the PC for $59.99, but the PlayStation 3 release date has not been confirmed. The same goes for the digital download of the Mass Effect 1 on PlayStation Network.

Bioware has also announced a “worldwide celebration” called N7 Day. This will take place on November 7th and will include in-game, online and live events. More details can be found at the Mass Effect website.

  • Assassins Creed Ezio Trilogy Announced – PS3 Exclusive

Seems like the PS3 is getting a lot of love these days. With all these budget-friendly collections, why shouldn’t it? Apparently, the Mass Effect Trilogy Set isn’t the only thing that you have to be excited about this November.

Ubisoft has announced the Assassins Creed Ezio Trilogy. This pack will contain three games: Assassins Creed 2, Assassins Creed: Brotherhood and Assassins Creed: Revelations. These games will help players to learn about Ezio’s rise from a novice Assassin to a Mentor. Furthermore, it will provide the newcomers a chance to get ready for the new instalment to the series and better understand the story.

This Assassins Creed Ezio Trilogy is set to release on November 13th (After Assassins Creed 3, which seems a little weird) for $39.99. With the release of this collection, Ezio Auditore de Firenze can finally Requiscat in Pace as his chapter will finally come to a close.

What do you think? Will you be getting this collection?
