This weekend, Pirates of the Caribbean 4 became the 2nd Pirates movie and the 3rd movie of actor Johnny Depp to pass the 1 billion mark worldwide. As of right now, only 8 lucky movies have got the opportunity to pass 1 billion worldwide gross which includes 2 “Pirates” movies.
The billionaire movie club includes 8 movies which are:-

3. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
5. Toy Story 3
6. Alice in Wonderland
7. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tide
8. The Dark Knight
Out of these, 4 of them are Disney movies. Johnny Depp is the top actor with 3 of his movies in the billionaire club. The only movie with 2 billion worldwide gross is “Avatar”.
What is more surprising that Pirates 4 wasn’t that much successful in America as opposed to its predecessor. It made even less then Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, both of whom made $423 million and $309 million alone in America. Pirates 4 has made $233 million in America as of yet but it is a massive success worldwide which is shown by its colossus $774 million gross from rest of the world. This accounts for about 76.6% of its worldwide gross and it was the main reason it became a massive success.
If we strip away the American gross and rank only the rest of the world gross then Pirates 4 stands 3rd behind Titanic and Avatar which is quite some achievement seeing that it was a sequel to a finished trilogy. This also shows us the star power of Johnny Depp and his cult favorite character Captain Jack Sparrow.

With such massive success, We will surely see Pirates 5 and 6 soon enough from Disney as they have already said that it will depend on the success of Pirates 4.
