After losing Megaupload to the feds and with numerous other filehosts limiting their services things aren’t looking good for pirates AND people who genuinely want to share their legit files. Rapidshare which is one of the bigger filehosts on the Internet has started to throttle their download speeds to just 30 kbps and out right disabling the ability to resume downloads.
They’ve also implemented a new strategy to throttle downloads: they’ll allow you to download a specific percentage of a file at high speed and then pause the download, which will add time to your download and will eventually take the same time as it will take you to download the file at 30kbps. The only alternative to this is to buy a premium account which one time users are hesitant to do so.
