  • Google adds new Google Now features to its official Search app for Android

Although Google was not able to hold its Android event due to Hurricane Sandy in the US, the company has released some major updates to its products. Google Now was also included in Google products that received major updates yesterday along with the announcement of Android 4.2, Nexus 4, and Nexus 10 tablet.

Google has released an update to its official Google Search app for Android that brings new Google Now features to devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or above. Not only this new update makes the app faster than before it also brings Google Now integration with Gmail. The Gmail integration of Google Now will allow the Search app to serve up information that is specifically of a location or time. Google has also added the ability in Google Now to create and show contextual cards for flights, events, package tracking, hotel confirmations, restaurant reservations, and more.

The new ‘Now cards’ allow users to look for nearby photo spots, attractions, movie openings, concerts, and more. The new voice actions Google has added to Google Now include app launching, schedule meetings, appointments checks, and more.

Google Search app for Android devices is available in the Google Play store for free. You can download it here.

  • Google Play now has 700K apps available for download

Google has announced that there are 700,000 apps available for download at its Google Play app marketplace for Android devices. All these apps are available for smartphones as well as tablets that are running Google’s mobile operating system i.e Android.

The number Google has announced for its Google Play store is huge and closely matches Apple’s iTunes App Store which is the largest App Store of the world. Apple recently announced that there are 700,000+ apps available in its App Store for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. Although Apple has announced that there are over 275,000 tablet optimized apps available in its App Store, Google has always avoided providing tablet specific numbers publicly.

The news of 700,000 apps becoming available for download in Google Play Store is good for Google, developers, and more importantly Android users who have a wide range of apps available for their platform of choice – for almost everything. Google recently announced new products including Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 that are both highly capable and developer devices, and will definitely bring more interest in app developers worldwide for the Google Play marketplace. Google recently extended the seller feature of Google Play to India, that will also have a positive affect on app numbers soon.

  • HTC One S SE with 64GB memory and white color announced

HTC One S is one of the best Android smartphones available in the market today and HTC certainly knows that. To make it even better HTC has announced a new model of the phone that has a gorgeous white unibody design and 64GB internal storage. As HTCSource reports, this new model of One S is officially called HTC One S SE, in which SE stands for Special Edition.

Currently only official Taiwanese site of HTC has this new model listed, making it unclear whether this device is intended for Asian markets only or HTC has plans of making it available in other parts of the world too. While HTC One S SE has upgraded storage than previous HTC One S models, all other specifications are unchanged. It still has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8-megapixel camera, and other features that are same as the older models.

HTC One S SE looks beautiful with its color combination of white, black, and red and it would be a shame if HTC decides to keep this great model of HTC One S limited to Asian or Taiwanese market only. We certainly hope that the device is made available in Europe and America in the coming weeks. Check out the gallery featuring images of HTC One S SE below.
