Couple of months back we heard rumors of Google coming up with their cheap Nexus Tablet to tackle the Apple’s Ipad which covers most of the Tablet market. Some days ago an internal document leaked telling us some key details on the tablet. Google officially unveiled it’s tablet at the Google I/O event. The tablet carries the name Google Nexus 7 (Pretty odd name but hey 7 could be Google’s lucky number) and as rumored it’s manufactured by Asus.

The Google Nexus 7 packs a 7″ IPS display of resolution 1280 by 800 pixels. The tablet is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 chip with 1GB of RAM and 12 core ultra-low voltage nVidia GeForce GPU. Despite the impressive hardware Google managed to keep the price low. Nexus 7 lacks 3G, LTE and a rear camera to keep the price tag as low as possible but it still boasts 1.2MP front-facing camera capable of 720p videos. The Connectivity on the Nexus 7 include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity and Google Wallet.

The Nexus 7 comes in two variants, the 8GB and 16GB. There is no microSD card slot so we have to make do with the onboard storage, microSD slot would have been an added treat to the already cheap tablet because 8GB or 16GB just doesn’t cut it for some people. The 8GB variant will cost you $199 and the 16GB variant will run for $249.

The Nexus 7 will be the first to run Android Jelly Bean which carries the version number 4.1 indicating not a major overhaul over Ice cream Sandwich. Google showcased also showcased Jelly Bean’s features at their conference. Being a Google device users will get pure android experience and fast updates to their Nexus tablets.

The Nexus 7 is set to compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire but Apple and Microsoft better be ready to take some of the beating aswell. With tablet so cheap and capable hardware it surely is a worthy contender. It’s price is significantly lower than both the Ipad and the Surface tablet (Set to release later this year). The Nexus tablet is set for a July release.
