  • iOS 6.0.1 update to bring numerous bug fixes

Apple released the iOS 6 update for the iPod, iPad and iPhone over a month ago. It brought a lot of new features to these devices like better iCloud support, all new Facebook integration, Panorama mode in the camera and over 200 other small features. However just like with any major release, there are a few issues in iOS 6 that needs to be addressed. These issues, according to a report, will be fixed in the upcoming iOS 6.0.1 update that is currently in testing.

One of the issues that will be resolved in iOS 6.0.1 update is the keyboard glitch we talked about that iPhone 5 users were facing. Other issues that will be resolved relates to the cellular data not working in some cases. Wifi will also be improved. Other bugs fixed in iOS 6.0.1 is a bug that allowed access to Passbook pass details from the lock screen, and also finally fix the bug that caused Exchange meetings to be unexpectedly cancelled for the entire calendar invite group. There’s an issue with the camera flash sometimes not going off sometimes, which will also be taken care of.

The iOS 6.0.1 update is currently in testing phase with carriers and will be pushed to users in the coming weeks.

  • Top 3 features in iOS 6

Apple dropped some real bombshells yesterday at WWDC, like that slick new MacBook Pro. One of the announcements was regarding iOS 6. iOS as we all know is Apple’s mobile OS. An OS that Apple calls the ‘most advance OS in the world’. It got a major version bump. There are over 200 new features in iOS 6. Let’s look at the top three.

    Facebook Integration

facebook gallery status 720x332 Top 3 features in iOS 6

Facebook has long been ignored by Apple. And when I mean ignored, I mean it looked like an intentional omission in iOS 5 since it had Twitter all over it. Whatever beef the two companies had with each other is now settled and iOS 6 will come with Twitter like Facebook integration. You can directly link your Facebook account with iOS like you did with Twitter. Similarly you can now share photos via pictures, update statuses right from the OS, ‘like’ apps from the App Store and share them on Facebook and even sync contacts with Facebook.

    Maps

Apple has given the boot to Google Maps. In comes a solution from Apple. Powered by TomTom these new maps finally support turn by turn navigation powered by….you guessed it; Siri. Also included are 3D maps which quite frankly, look stunning. The new maps are vector based which means loading time is a lot faster compared to bitmap maps. However it doesn’t have street view, something exclusive to Google Maps…..for now.

    Siri

Siri was a mixed bag in iPhone 4S. It has now been given a dramatic update. Siri can now launch apps, something that was sorely missing. It can also give you sports updates and pretty much any sort of information related to baseball and basketball; and movie schedules. You can also make restaurant reservations using Siri. It also speaks in a lot more languages now. Also, Siri is now available on the new iPad.

  • iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak Won’t Be Released

Sad news for iOS 6 users who have been waiting for an iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak for their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch devices. Popular Jailbreak developer Stefan Esser or i0n1c as he’s know around in the community tweeted our earlier that people should get over waiting for the iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak as it won’t be released.

Esser has been previously connected to various Jailbreak and he was mainly responsible for the iOS 4.3.3 Jailbreak. And not only will an iOS 6 Jailbreak won’t be released but the newer version of Apple’s operating system – iOS 6.0.1 won’t get any special treatment either.

    Also check out:

Are you still holding on for the Jailbreak or will you be downgrading to an older firmware that supports an Untethered Jailbreak? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Downgrade iOS 6.0.1 to 5.1.1on iDevices using Redsn0w

Apple released the 6.0.1 version of iOS only a few weeks ago to squash a few bugs that plagued the iPhone 5. The release was also available for older iPhones, iPods and iPads. Unfortunately the jailbreak scene on iOS 6.0.1 is pretty grim at the moment, with only a tethered option available so far. For a proper untethered jailbreak you will need to downgrade iOS 6.0.1 to 5.1.1.

Fortunately though there is a way to downgrade iOS 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 for those looking for an untethered jailbreak. The method below is only for older iOS devices, running A4 or below chipset. Which means newer devices like iPhone 5, iPad 4 and such are out.

redsnow Downgrade iOS 6.0.1 to 5.1.1on iDevices using Redsn0w

Step 1- Download Redsn0w for Mac or Windows.

Step 2- Download the necessary IPSW for the device you’re using.

Step 3- Extract redsn0w.zip and run the redsn0w file

Step 4- Navigate to Extras -> Even more -> Restore and choose the IPSW for your relevant device.

Step 5- If you rely on ultrasn0w for software unlock, click Yes when prompted with ”Prevent Baseband Update?”

Step 6- Follow the steps to enter DFU mode.

Step 7- When in DFU mode redsn0w will scan Cydia to locate iOS 5.1.1 SHSH blobs.

Step 8- Wait for the process to finish.

When it’s finished you will have downgraded iOS 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 on your iDevice.

  • Concept video shows what iOS 6 should have been

Apple announced their latest and greatest mobile OS last week, the 6th version of iOS. While it introduced us to many new features, it also left us wondering if Apple could have done a lot more to spice up the UI. A UI that many have come to love, but has remained largely unchanged from the very first version of iOS. It is after all a big release, unlike the point releases we see often. And with Android completely redesigning their interface and Windows Phone coming to the party, the parity between iOS and other operating systems have closed ever so much in the last few months. What does this hope for a better UI in iOS give rise to? A video like the following one showing some exciting concept features.

Some things shown in the video include a very N9′ish looking multi-tasking system. You get a card view of your running apps with big thumbnails to give a better idea of what those apps have. We’ve already seen this system long ago in Palm OS and then later copied into Android and Windows Phone. I can already picture the ‘Apple copy cats’ comments if they were ever to implement a multi tasking system such as this.

Other features shown include Dynamic Badges and Flipicons. Dynamic Badges especially looks like the best feature shown in the entire video and something that can have true utility. Basically instead of having to open the app to view your notifications, you can click the badge and view them at a glance. This is something I’d personally find very useful.

For a rundown of all the features, view the video. Are there any features here you’d want Apple to implement before iOS 6 goes public?

ios 5 vs ios 6 adoption iOS 6 leads iOS 5 by 122% in 2 days

Such a massive adoption of iOS 6 reveals a fact that iOS6 is much better as compared to iOS 5 and is a fascinating one too. iPhone users are crazy about iOS6 since after its release. iOS 6 is supported by iPhone 3Gs, 4, 4s and iPhone 5. Another factor that involves in such a massive response to adoption of iOS 6 that Apple provide facility of over-the-air update for iOS6, that will help iPhone users in easy moving from previous iOS to iOS 6.

Apple always pushes its updates for iPhone and iPad users at the same time that always leaves a space for adoption of every new thing coming in Apple stores. Apple’s easy-to-update policy always makes it on upper hand in smart phone world.

Adoption of latest iOS platform is great news for developers, as now they have to spend less time on integration of their apps on multi-versions of iOS. These facts will give rise to larger number of developments in iOS 6. Few developers have already moved to development in this new iOS world, which will help in some rapid growth in tech industry.

Developers and iOS users are coming up with different fact and figures. Specific numbers are bound to vary by time, but all folks are coming with the same news, iPhone are upgraded and iOS6 I adopted very fast.

  • iOS 6: Summing it up

Although iOS 6 had been unofficially available in its beta form for some time now, the latest iteration of Apple’s flagship phone formalized the release. Apart from aesthetic and functional improvements, Apple had promised some new features and firmer security knots in order to seal the bundle. Did they live up to the innovative trend? Let’s take a closer look at some of the highlights without further ado.

    The Aesthetics

At the first glance the UI seems just about the same. Same old icons, same old grid-based home screen. The only noticeable change we found was the color tone of the Music (formerly iPod) has been made lighter. The lack of an interface lift may be good or bad, varies from person to person, but we think it’s about time we feasted our eyes on something that looks… different.

    The Features

This is sure to be the center-piece of our plot. iOS 6 packs a good bunch of features and some of them are very neat, in terms of practicality and usability in general. Let’s delve down and talk about the most important ones, in our humble opinion.

    • Facebook Integration Yup you’ve heard it right. Facebook and Twitter are now an integral part of the iOS. This means seamless integration of your ‘Online You’ right into your phone.
    • FaceTime over Cellular Data A feature most desired, and Apple provides. You can finally say “Hi” to your people via Cellular data. There are other alternatives to FaceTime, some might say. But we daresay that FaceTime blows every other app away. Few apps could’ve done better, most would’ve done worse.
    • Panorama The camera continues to improve. You can finally shoot panoramic photos from your nifty little 8 Megapixel snapper. And the change is done within the software, so you can do it on older iPhones too.
    • Passbook Definitely one of the coolest features in iOS 6 that we’d like to see prosper much more. Passbook is Apple’s alternative to NFC. It stores all your important information, basically acting as your chamber of secrets… well so to speak.

    The Originals

Apple claims that Siri has become better and packs more intelligence. We decided to put it to test. We’ve had our share of good times with our virtual friend and we’re happy to inform you that Siri has some very interesting replies up its sleeve that will crack you up, once you decided to ask it mindless questions… again.

Apart from that, Apple has replaced Google Maps with its own version of Maps. Obviously the change of plan was done in a hoot and it’s fairly obvious that Apple’s own version of Maps is in its infancy. Competing with a mainstream giant like Google Maps is going to be tough but knowing Apple, we’re optimistic.

    The Ending Note

These are some of the highlights that users can look forward to. While the naysayers might criticize Apple for not reshaping the operating system aesthetically, we confess that we’re of the same mind. Besides the obvious, iOS 6 sports a stronger security mainframe and showcases leading performance benchmarks all around.

While iOS 5 was a disappointment apart from Siri’s introduction, we’re happy to announce that iOS 6 presents a plethora of goodies that people cannot miss out on.

  • Apple Grabs Google’s Senior Employee Sally Cole As Their Communications Director

Its not new when employees leave their company for their rivals. Marrisa Mayer left Google to be the C.E.O of Yahoo, Punit Suni, Kevin Rose and the list goes on. But the big news for today is, the director of internal communications at Google, Sally Cole has left Mountain view for its biggest rival Apple. Sally Cole served as the director for more than 6 years.

The news came from the official LinkedIn account of Sally Cole when she changed her job to Communications director at the Cupertino company. Just a few days ago we heard some news that Apple is chasing Google employees who are involved in Google maps after the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 launch with Apple Maps failing to live up to expectation.
