  • iPhone 5 supply has nearly caught up with demand

The iPhone 5 has been Apple’s biggest launch this year. And as it is with each iPhone launch, the fifth version has gained a lot of popularity in the few weeks that its been out. It hasn’t been without its fair share of issues, but the single biggest issue that Apple has faced has been related to supply. iPhone 5 supply has simply been outnumbered in face of the great demand. There have been various reasons for it. However in the past few days we’ve noticed that things are looking a lot better now.

  • iPad 2 (or something) shows up in China

11x0302boaelagb3 300x172 iPad 2 (or something) shows up in China

Not even the source of these images is absolutely certain that the device in his possession is a recognized iPad 2, but we can’t very well leave you spending your entire day anticipating that Apple has launched its new tablet. The above designed tablet has been procured over in China and seems to tally closely with rumor we’ve been hearing about this hardware refresh — kind of a slimmer profile, an almost entirely flat back, big speaker, and rear- and front-facing cameras. We’ve looked into the digits on the back of the tablet and the model number is one for the original Apple TV while the FCC ID is for a WiFi-only iPad, but those could be mere placeholders on this mockup and not a real working tablet. The SIM card slot looks to have been repositioned to a slot that was once expected to be an SD card reader. Other area’s of interest here include the 3G antenna, whose white cover is expected to be black on final units, and the sloped power button and headphone jack, bringing those “jumbo iPod touch” jokes to mind. So reality or something else do you find in the design? Take a look at some more snaps after the break:

  • Apple Rumored To Use Curved Glass For The iPhone 5 | iPhone 4S

Another iPhone rumor for you folks, looks like Apple might be planning to use curved glass in the iPhone 5/4S similar to the one used in the Samsung Nexus S and Dell Venue Pro.

Apple has reportedly purchase more than 200 glass cutting machines since the direct purchase of curved glass would highly increase capital costs. The machines are currently stored in Apple assembly plants and will be moved as soon the yeild for curved glass rises. Apple is currently in talks with suppliers regarding cover glass, glass cutting, lamination and touch sensors to improve yields.

  • iPhone 5 supply improving in US

There are many problems associated with mass producing something. One of the biggest ones is keeping up with demand. The iPhone is one of the most hyped and talked about smartphone in the market. Naturally when Apple announced the iPhone 5 the demand was incredible. Unfortunately various problems prevented the iPhone 5 supply to reach optimal levels causing long delays in shipping.

We reported before that iPhone 5 capacity is improving and Apple is hoping to sell nearly 46 million units by this years end. It looks as if they’re on track to achieve just that. It is reported that the supply to major US carriers Sprint and Verizon has improved, and will continue to improve in the coming few weeks. It will reach consistent availability in the next 2 to 3 weeks. According to findings by Gene Munster and his team at Piper Jaffray availability of the iPhone 5 at all three major U.S. carriers, including Sprint, was above 20 percent for the first time.

54% Apple Stores reported they had the AT&T model in stock, 24% had the Verizon model, and 84% had the Sprint variant. With iPhone 5 supply improving users will get their ordered smartphones in time and Apple can hope to sell the forecasted amount in the next month or two.
