  • Add Music Controls To Springboard With “SpringPod”

Back in 2001, Apple launched the first iPod and it changed the way we listened to music. The jailbreak tweak which we would be discussing today is also related to music.

SpringPod is a jailbreak tweak that adds music controls directly on your springboard in form of icons and the use of this tweak is really simple. Once installed, it will add the following controls to your springboard (home screen):

    • Play or Pause music playback.
    • Rewind music.
    • Fast Forward music.
    • Increase volume.
    • Decrease volume.
    • Previous track.
    • Next track.

You can also customize the look of SpringPod’s icons via settings panel. This tweak is really helpful for those people who has a broken home button on their iDevice and are unable to invoke App Switcher. Plus it also let you know the song info by holding the play icon.

SpringPod is available on Cydia for $0.99 under BigBoss repository.

Instructions to install this tweak are:

Step 1. Go to Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone.

  • Update To iOS 5.0.1 before It’s Too Late

After several months of patience, iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for iDevices was released although it was only compatible with A4 iDevices while jailbreak for A5 devices is still under process.

However it doesn’t look like that jailbreak for A4 devices will last longer. Jailbreak developer’s has stated that Apple has patched the Corona exploit, which was used for successful untethered jailbreak, in their latest iOS 5.1 ( iOS 5.1 Beta 3).

iOS 5.1 is still in beta but it wont be long when the proper release would be Live because three beta versions of iOS 5.1 have already released.

Pod2g, a famed iOS developer found a bug in iOS 5 which he believed can be used for a successful jailbreak for A4 devices, so Corona 5.0.1 untether was introduced. Apple has patched this bug because of which iOS 5.1 is no more at risk by Corona. This news is not confirmed by a Dev team member but it’s better to be on the safe side. So you should update your iDevice on iOS 5.0.1 before it’s too late.

Whenever a new firmware is released, Apple stop’s signing the older firmware version and also doesn’t verify the older firmware while updating or restoring your iDevice. Those people who own iPhone 4s or iPad 2 and plan for a jailbreak in the future, make sure your iDevice is on iOS 5.0.1 because you would have no more access to iOS 5.0.1 as soon as iOS 5.1 is released.

  • Enhance Your iDevice’s Mail App With “AllMail”

“AllMail” is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to enhance the edit options on your stock Mail app. Even though the iOS 5 has added quite a few features to theMail app, using “AllMail” is like nothing you’ve experienced before.

With the help of “AllMail” you can gain access to some settings like select all, move all, mark all, delete all and last but not least hide all your emails with a password, which is a great feature.

By means of mark all, you can actually mark all as read, unread, flag or unflag which I believe should have been there in the first place. You can also access the password protection from settings panel.

“AllMail” is available on Cydia for $1.5 under BigBoss repository.

Instructions to install this tweak are:

Step 1. Go to Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone.

Step 2. Search for “AllMail” under BigBoss repository.

Step 3. Install the tweak and Restart SpringBoard.

  • How To: Update To iOS 4.3 Using iTunes

Updating your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or even your Apple TV using iTunes to the latest iOS is a very simple process, just follow the steps listed after the break.

Step 1:  Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable.

Step 2: iTunes will automatically detect your device and open up, if it doesn’t open it up yourself.

Step 3: After your device is detected it will prompt for an update, if it doesn’t click the device’s name in the left hand menu and select ”Check for Update”. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet.

Step 4: iTunes will then open a popup saying that an update for your device is available, proceed clicking the “Download and Update” button.

Step 5: The download will depend on your Internet speed so don’t worry if it takes a while, make sure you don’t disconnect your device during the process.

That’s it guys, after iTunes is done updating which should take around 30 minutes in total, it will then re-sync your device with your iTunes library and be able for your use again.

  • Attach more than 5 Photos to an email with “Mail More Photos”

Apple has limited photo attachments to just 5 per mail but not for long since

Jailbreaking an iDevice removes such limitations imposed by Apple. “Mail More Photos” is a new Cydia tweak launched by “noppers”. This tweak helps you in attaching almost infinite number of photos to send via email and also let you know the size of the selected photos to email, which is a good option as it will let you know that how much data you would use.

Its available in Cydia under Modmyi repository for $0.99 only.

Instructions to install this tweak are:

Step 1. Go to Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Step 2. Search for “Mail More Photos” under ModMyi repository.

  • How To: Exit All Apps on iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad

With iOS4 Apple introduced its revolutionary new take at multitasking. The multitasking on the iPhone 4 is a pleasure to use but the problem is that over time a lot of apps become clustered up in the background. The only way to close them was to select each single app and exit it from the multitasking menu. However, as it turns out there is a MUCH easier way to close all of the back ground apps with one single click.

The following is a guide on how to exit all apps on an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch or an iPad.

    Step One

Open up Cydia from the springboard

    Step Two

Navigate to the search tab and search for Remove Background.

    Step Three

Tap on the Remove Background package and install it.

    Step Four

Remove Backgound will now appear on your springboard.

    Step Five

Now, there are two possible ways to use Remove Background to exit all apps on the iPhone.

    Activator

    1. Launch the RemoveBG app and go to the activator menu.

    2.  Select the activation method from the many available to activate RemoveBG and exit all your background apps. For this example I’m going to use the volume keys.

    SBsettings

This method is more convenient and recommended by us.

    1. Add the Repo http://repo.hackyouriphone.org to Cydia.

    2. Install the package Remove Background SBsettings.

    3. Now you can simply swipe on the status bar, and all your toggles will accessible from anywhere on the phone. To exit all apps you simply have to press the RemoveBG button and all the open apps will be exited.

  • Editorial: A Tale About Apple

This is about a Pakistani with an Apple product. A guy living in a third-world country.  This is a story about me, Ali Khan, the Founder of this fine establishment TechDeville.com, this is a tale about me and my iPod Classic 80GB and how Apple Authorized Resellers helped (or almost destroyed) me. It all starts two years ago when I get this sweet baby as a present from my beloved Uncle, I took care of it more than anything else. It was a magical two years, unlimited music, mood swing control, you name it, my iPod was there to help me out.

The tragedy began when just two months ago my iPod died on me and that too when the warranty had ended. Without any physical damage, it just wouldn’t turn on. So I did what any man in my position would do at an emergency situation and instantly Googled it. Tried all the reset/restore remedies but none worked. Now since I live in Karachi, we don’t have official Apple Stores, we have authorized resellers. So I started writing down the addresses of each one to go visit to see if it could be cured. This is a tale about my experience (or lack thereof) regarding the AUTHORIZED resellers.

    My First Visit: Bawany Technologies

Bawany Technologies are Apple’s first authorized resellers in Pakistan. That alone was enough to arouse my trust in them. Now I was very skeptical about this visit, as I didn’t know if they’d actually give me any good answers. But I still went, as helpless as I was to see my iPod display that fine Apple again. Well upon arrival to the extraordinarily immaculate store, I had a smile on my face and without hesitation asked the sales rep about my issue. His immediate response was:

“Sorry, we do not fix iPods. No one in Karachi can fix iPods, no other reseller can fix iPods.”

Well THAT was a giant blow to my innocent smile. I was left with no questions as the guy already answered any query that might develop in my dubious little head. So, sad and with my head down, I left the store. Checking the name “Bawany” off of my list.

    Website for the curious: http://www.bawanytech.com/

My advice about Bawany: Yeah, they can’t help you unless you’re under warranty or wanna buy something new. Service was below-par too. Nothing I’d go back to.

    My Second Visit: iTech

After getting the extremely negative let-down from Bawany Technologies, I went on to iTech which was second on my list. Now their website clearly states that they take old iPod and exchange them for new ones, well it doesn’t work for dead old iPods. Still I went in. Again, another extremely lavish store with MacBooks on display, enough to make any geek drool. I went on to talk to the sales rep, I won’t name any names. Now upon my sad confession over my iPod, the nice man told me they can fix any Apple Product, he said:

“We have CERTIFIED APPLE ENGINEERS. We have spare parts NO ONE IN KARACHI has. We have fixed EVERY KNOWN issue. You just have to sign this paper enabling us to fix the iPod, and you’re good to go.”

As soon as I heard those magical capitalized words above, my hands went on their own and signed the paper. Happy and content that I’d get my iPod fixed, I left the store in hopes of a brighter tomorrow. A week later, I went back to iTech to take my product, the guy told me it wasn’t fixed, it can’t be fixed by ANYONE and then he went on to say this to my face:

“However, you could sell this here FOR 500 RUPEES( 5 DOLLARS) and we’ll USE IT FOR SCRAP. It has NO VALUE left.”

Now listening to the above quoted line, I was enraged, angry, wanted to make scrap out of him, but being a good human being I quietly took my dead iPod (wrapped in paper) and walked out, while some lady bought a MacBook Pro and the guy was nothing but nice to her(shows how much money talks in this world).

iTech too has a website: www.itechpk.com

What I think about iTech: I don’t think I need to elaborate on it further or this article would be blasphemous!

The Depression Phase: Dead iPod Needs Burial

So since none of the above mentioned “AUTHORIZED RESELLERS” had a sound solution for me. I finally put my dead iPod in its box and decided to get a new one. While looking online for a better iPod Reseller one day, I stumbled upon Media Center. It was a gamble but my heart still wanted my dead iPod to be of use, so I called them up and explained my story. They told me to visit their service center the very next day. And so I went.

    THE Authorized Reseller: Media Center

So my third and last venture in my dead iPod story is Media Center. Another “AUTHORIZED RESELLER” I had huge doubts about. But I still took my dead iPod(Still wrapped in paper) to their outlet. Met with Mr. Zuhair Younus, their General Manager, he made me wait in the waiting area(which was amazingly lavish by the way) for twenty minutes. After which he came to me with my poor iPod and told me the magic words that lit up my heart:

“This iPod can be exchanged for another iPod Classic 80GB for 11,000 Rupees (105 Dollars) and will be with you within 2 weeks.”

BLISS!! SHEER BLISS!! Those words uttered were like music to my ears through a pair of Beats By Dre Studios! I quickly signed the letter and said my final goodbyes to the soldier lost in battle. I’ll receive my new iPod in a few days. Media Center did good and succeeded.

    Media Center’s Website: www.mediacenterpk.com

My thoughts about Media Center: BLISS!! SHEER BLISS!!

    Moral Of The (True) Story

Apple Resellers in Pakistan aren’t all they seem to be. We have merely four to five in the entire country which are actually authorized by Apple themselves. And out of them I found only Media Center to be the helpful and TRULY AUTHORIZED one. This customer is a happy camper. And I will without a heartbeat go back to Media Center for any or all Apple needs.

    Thank you for reading.
