LG prepping Quad-Core powered smartphone with 10MP camera

When it comes to smartphones, or more specifically Android, Samsung rules the world with HTC following. There is however another brand LG that is striving very hard to get a share of the pie. LG as a whole is a very successful company when it comes to consumer products. Their LCDs and various other products are very popular through out the world. However the smartphone arm of the company has been struggling lately. LG was the first company in the world to come out with a dual-core powered smartphone, Optimus 2x. Software and hardware issues with the phone meant it never really took off.

Now with their recently announced Optimus 4x LG hopes to have a change in fortune. One smartphone will not do that though, the company chairman has realised. This yet unannounced phone from LG will pack in the same quad-core CPU that powers the Optimus 4x. This new phone will swap the mediocre 8MP camera with a new 10MP shooter.

This is suppose to be the be all and end all phone for LG for 2012 which is why the phone is in development with direct input from the chairman, who is reported to be quite dissatisfied with LG’s performance in the smartphone race.

Of course specs alone don’t make a phone. LG is notorious for delayed updates and buggy software. If they hope to compete with HTC and Samsung they need to sort out those issues as well. In addition to this LG needs a ‘wow’ factor in their phones. LG is still a niche company when it comes to smartphones, and simply producing phones with the same feature set as popular phones will not be enough.

Will this unannounced phone be what LG needs for a change in fortune? I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.

Samsung and LG to release 1080p display equipped smartphones in 2013

Recently HTC stunned everyone with the announcement of HTC J Butterfly, which is a Japan-only smartphone and features a gorgeous 1080p display. While HTC is the first Android phone maker that has been able to put this high quality display in a commercial device, Samsung and LG are working hard to catch up.

According to a recent report by MKNews, both these Korean companies are planning to release 1080p display equipped smartphones in the first half of 2013. These displays that are also known as ‘full HD displays’ were hard to fit in small display size of smartphones but that seems to be the problem of the past as HTC J Butterfly nicely fits the 1080p screen in a 5-inch screen. Samsung is said to introduce 1080p displays based on its AMOLED technology while LG will use the LCD prototype it showed to the world a while back.

While other details about these the displays LG and Samsung are considered to be using in their future smartphones are unknown at this point of time, it is safe to assume that they will boast 400 pixels per inch. The devices with these new displays are said to debut at Mobile World Congress event of next year.

LG Nexus phone spotted in the wild. Purported specifications for the phone revealed
After all the leaks we have seen in the last few days we can safely say that Google is partnering with LG to release its next Nexus Phone. Now a XDA-Developers forum user 4Shael has posted some photos and purported specs of the rumored device.

The Android powered smartphone that is dubbed as LG Nexus features a shape that is very similar to Galaxy Nexus from the front. The back of this phone as seen in the second image is inspired by Sprint’s variant of Optimus G. Here’s the second shot revealing back side of the not so mysterious device.

Other than posting the photos of the ‘LG Nexus’ phone 4Shael also revealed the internal specifications of the device. According to his post on the forum, LG Nexus smartphone features a quad-core ARMv7 processor that is clocked at 1.5GHz and has 8GB of internal memory. The screen resolution of this phone is said to be 1184×768 pixels. You can see the full specs revealed on XDA forum below.

LG Nexus: Hands-on, benchmarks, release date, and official name revealed?

The LG Nexus phone, which is perhaps the most leaked smartphone in recent months has now got more details available on the web. Several sources have shared different news about this new Nexus device by LG. First up is a Belarusian tech blog that has posted hands-on photos of the unannounced phone.

Guys over at Onliner have posted photos of LG Nexus Phone from every angle enabling us to have a detailed look at the upcoming device. They have also posted photos of LG Nexus alongside iPhone 5 to show us the size and design differences between the two devices. Onliner’s device is labeled as LG E960 and features Quad-Core Snapdragon S4 processor alongwith 2GB of RAM.

As previously reported, LG Nexus has 8GB of internal storage, 8-megapixel camera, and a 4.7-inch screen with 1280×768 resolution. As of now the device is running Android 4.1.2, but that could change as it is expected to get released with Android 4.2 installed.

Secondly, a guy who is in possession of a prototype of the upcoming LG Nexus device has posted the benchmark scores from the phone after running AnTuTu and Quadrant apps on it as reported by AndroidandMe. You can see the benchmark scores of LG Nexus in the image below.

In a report TheVerge reports about a leaked inventory info from UK retailer Carphone Warehouse. The photo of the inventory list has a mention of ‘LG Nexus 4′ device that lists white and black versions of it. If this inventory detail is right then not only it reveals the official name of the upcoming Nexus device by LG but it also tells us that it will be available in more than one color.

Lastly we have a French newspaper that claims to have info regarding LG Nexus’s release date. According to the French newspaper Le Figaro LG Nexus or Nexus 4 will launch on October 29th. We have heard reports of LG Nexus coming at the end of October and this report by French newspaper supports that claim.

Nothing has been revealed about this new LG Nexus phone officially, yet. We will update you with more soon.

Upcoming Tegra 3 Device from LG’s Specifications Leak
Looks like the 2012 MWC is going to be a showcase of Tegra 3 phones. We already learned that HTC is going to unveil its ‘Next Big Thing’, the HTC Endeavor at the Mobile World Congress.

We now have the specs of LG’s next flagship sporting the Quad-core Tegra 3 chip. The LG X3 (as it is called) supposedly has 4.7″ screen with HD resolution. Powering the large screen and the processor will be a 2000 mAh battery. It wil run on Android Ice Cream Sandwich and will have a 8MP camera with ‘ultra fast shutter’.

LG unveils Optimus 4X HD
Rumored as the LG X3 as we earlier reported, LG has announced its Tegra 3 phone as Optimus 4X HD ahead of the MWC. The phone sports a 4.7″ IPS LCD with 1280×720 resolution. The quad-core processor will run at 1.5 GHz clock speed. Ice Cream Sandwich will be available out of the box. The phone’s thickness is just 8.9mm and has a very thin bezel around the screen.

It will have 1 GB of RAM and I6 GB of internal memory. The phone will also have an MHL port. For imaging, an 8MP rear camera as well as 1.3MP front camera are there. Powering the phone will be a 2150 mAh battery.

The phone will be on sale in Europe in Q2 of this year.
