  • Unannounced Mac OS X 10.9 appears online

Earlier this year Apple announced the next chapter in its Mac OS X operating system. The 10.8 update, also called Mountain Lion brings in a lot of new features for the Mac lineup. This includes Facebook integration, power nap for the SSD equipped MacBooks and deeper iCloud integration. The Mountain Lion update has been successful as no major issues have been reported. However that won’t stop Apple from preparing the next update.

visits Unannounced Mac OS X 10.9 appears online

Apple has not mentioned any plans of a successor to Mac OS X 10.8 yet. But in the last few days some websites are reporting traffic coming from OS X 10.9. This includes Apple Insider, which reports that nearly 30 visits from OS X 10.9 have been made in the last few days. Other websites are also reporting the same thing. Someone from within the Apple labs is evidently testing out an early built of Mac OS X 10.9.

While something like this can easily be faked, this looks legit since its on multiple websites. As mentioned before, nothing about OS X 10.9 is currently known or when we can expect it. Apple usually brings in major updates to OS X on annual basis so we should expect OS X 10.9 to hit somewhere around June 2013.

  • New Counter-Strike Game Announced, Coming Soon To PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac

The rumors swirling around the internet were true after all. Valve has announced Counter-Strike Global Offensive for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac. This new game will be released on PC on Steam while Xbox 360 and PS3 will get it on XBLA and PSN. The release date hasn’t been specified yet but an early 2012 date was given by Valve.

Counter-Strike is a popular game which wasn’t originally a full fledged game but just a sort of mod of the original Half-Life for PC. It became the most played online PC game in 1999 and is still popular today despite showing its age now.

This recent Counter-Strike news will cheer a lot of the die-hard Counter-Strike fans and considering the fact that it is made available on almost every mainstream gaming platform these days, it will surely be a treat. You can read the full press release below.

VALVE ANNOUNCES COUNTER-STRIKE: GLOBAL OFFENSIVE (CS: GO)

Next Gen Console, PC, and Mac Release Targeted for Early 2012

August 13, 2011 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).
Targeted for release via Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam (for PC and Mac) in early 2012, CS: GO will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago (CS beta 1, August 1999).
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Doug Lombard, VP of Marketing at Valve. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”
CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime and London Games Festival.

  • iTunes 10.5 Beta 6.1 With iTunes Match Now Available For Download (Windows And Mac)

Apple has added iTunes 10.5 BETA 6.1 to their US developer channel (to be available in other regions soon) and is now available for download. The only major change in this BETA is the addition of iTunes Match which enables you to upload your audio files to Apple’s iCloud service.

Using iTunes Match you can sync you entire music collection with iCloud for a free of $25 per year. The service will only upload music from your collection which is not already available on iTunes, all music that is available on iTunes will be streamed to your PC, Mac or iOS Device directly from the cloud in it’s original 256kbps AAC glory.

The service could prove to be very handy and help save storage space across your devices. There are a few bugs in the service though like you can’t add music to iCloud from more than one computer at one time and there is minor playback lag when playing the files on your iOS devices. Expected these and other bugs to be fixed in the BETA. Developers were also told to backup their entire iTunes libraries since Apple could delete files from their iCloud accounts at anytime during the BETA.

Macworld recently benchmarked this computer as the fastest Mac they’ve ever tested, even faster than the current Mac Pros. Video after the break. [box] This $2699 BTO iMac takes the top-of-the-line standard configuration iMac—a $1999 27-inch 3.1GHz Core i5 quad-core model with a 1TB 7200-rpm hard drive—and replaces the processor and hard drive. The upgrade to a 3.4GHz Core i7 adds $200 to the price. And the 256GB SSD is an extra $500.

The 27-inch 3.4GHz Core i7 iMac with SSD is the fastest Mac we’ve tested.
