  • Walmart Planning to Drop Retail Price Of Xbox 360 4GB Bundle To $250 On August 28

The PS3 has recently got a official price cut which resulted in a price drop of about $50. Microsoft could have felt threatened with this sudden price drop considering that Xbox 360 hasn’t got a price cut for a long time now. It seems like Walmart is now planning to sell the Xbox 360 4GB bundle for $250 down from $300.

Joystiq recently released this news and they have posted pictures of the Walmart flyer which has clearly mentioned the price drop. You can get a 4GB Xbox 360 S along with Kinect for $250. If we compare it to PS3, we can get a 160GB PS3 with the same price.

Microsoft has yet to announce a official price drop even though PS3 is taking the lead over Xbox 360 in Europe and Japan but still Xbox 360 is selling very well in the USA. The Xbox 360 is catching dust in Japan with minimal sales and has sold a puny 1+ million consoles so far as opposed to the PS3. In USA, the situation is different and Xbox 360 is having the lead over PS3 for a long time now.

  • iOS 5 Produces More Evidence That Points to a Retina Display iPad 3

Twitter images found in iOS 5 again suggest that Apple’s next iPad will sport a high resolution retina display.

A TechUnwrapped reader was going through the new Twitter framework in iOS 5 and stumbled upon a reference images that had the resolution 2.48×1536, exactly double that of the current iPads.

[box] As I was going through the iOS SDK I came across some images in the new Twitter .framework. The resolution appears to be 1,536 x 2,048.

Apparently the Twitter.framework is the only framework I found to have these enormous images.[/box]

Previously, images were found in iBooks that were also twice the resolution of the normal ones.

  • Apple Proposes Plan for an Even Smaller SIM Card Standard

Last year, with the advent of the iPad and the iPhone 4, Apple introduced a new SIM-Card standard – the Micro-SIM. Reuters reports that this time around Apple has submitted a new requirement to (European telecoms standards body) ETSI for a smaller SIM form factor, even smaller than the current micro-SIM used in the iPad 1, iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

“They have done that through the standardization route, through ETSI, with the sponsorship of some major mobile operators, Orange being one of them,” said Anne Bouverot, Orange’s head of mobile services. She further went on to say that the process would take time but the devices supporting this new format could be out as early as next year.

  • Is The Wii U Powerful Enough To Be A Next Generation Console?

The Wii U, which is the upcoming next generation console of Nintendo could pack some serious power in it. How powerful? We don’t know this yet but at least we can guess and make speculations based on the currently available facts and figures.

Engadget released a rumor citing IBM that said “The CPU of Wii U will pack the same processor technology that is found in IBM’s own super computer named ‘Watson’ “.

    IBM Watsom

Of course, having the same processor technology doesn’t mean it will be mini super computer. It is flattering to assume it. The official specs of IBM Watson are leaps beyond any current hardware. Watson packs a total of 2880 processor cores backed by 16 terabytes of RAM.

Digital Foundry analyzed this rumor and said that it is entirely not possible for Wii U. A custom designed processor which is based on current family of IBM CPU is entirely possible though, Nintendo will ensure that it can at least hold the backward compatibility with Wii. Gamecube will lose its support on Wii U as officially revealed by Nintendo. Since Wii U is releasing along with current generation of consoles which includes Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, a complicated hardware will only make development on Wii U more difficult. This will mean that Nintendo won’t introduce something new in their console and will most probably go with current technology to ensure cross-platform development is easier.

    Wii U Console

There is also a rumor that Wii U will have a 45nm processor. Since the Wii U isn’t launching until next year, this is quite surprising as by the time we will finally get Wii U, new technology will be available as the chip size will decrease. If Nintendo will decide to go with old technology they will have to also cope with the cost of providing an efficient cooling solution.

The GPU is rumored to be manufactured by AMD and is officially confirmed. The details of its make and model are as of yet unknown so we cannot speculate on what to expect from it. The GPU is also Radeon based which according to the analysis of the technical demo of Wii U at E3 is most likely some lower end mobility Radeon card. It will most likely pack the same power as currently available 4650/4670 range of graphics cards.

    AMD Radeon

The RAM could be based GDDR3 or DDR3 as it is more cost efficient then GDDR5.

Nintendo also posted the full specs on their official site which confirms that the processor will be IBM manufactured multi-core processor based on the POWER architecture.

According to IndustryGamers who talked with Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, He said “Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50% more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. This is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo.”

Will the Wii U really be able to compete with the next generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony. We will be able to finally see it once the official specifications are revealed.

  • More DLC Scheduled For Red Dead Redemption (Rumor)

Red Dead Redemption was a game of the year contender when it was released last year. It received several DLC mainly for it’s multiplayer mode as well as a whole new side story “Undead Nightmare” which featured new settings and enemies within the Red Dead universe featuring Zombies. Now it is being rumored according to Rockstar’s official twitter that more DLC is being planned for Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar said at the beginning of this month that a new “FREE DLC” could be provided for all the Red Dead players as a way for appreciating their support. This FREE DLC could include new fan-favorite multiplayer characters.

Rockstar has yet to confirm this rumor which came into light when recently a user asked about any upcoming Red Dead DLC. Rockstar has however confirmed that a quad XP weekend for Red Dead Redemption multiplayer mode will begin tomorrow until 4th July.
