Use RedSn0w to downgrade iPod touch 4G from iOS 6 to iOS 5 on Windows

Today we’re gonna be attempting to downgrade iPod Touch 4G from iOS 6 back to iOS 5. Recently iPhone Dev Team updated their popular RedSn0w tool to make it capable of downgrading iOS 6.x to iOS 5.x on certain iOS devices. The list of supported devices also includes the A4 chip equipped Apple iPod touch 4th generation. Here in this post we are going to show you how you can downgrade your iPod touch 4G running iOS 6 to any version of iOS 5 of your choice.

Before you begin make sure you have the required SHSH blobs saved for the version you are trying to restore your device to. Let’s begin.

Step 1. Download, extract, and run RedSn0w. Make sure you open it in the Administrative mode of Windows.

Step 2. Click on Extras button, then on Even more, and then on the ‘Restore’ button.

Step 3. Now click on the IPSW button and from the windows that appears, select the IPSW file of the iOS version you want to restore your iPod touch to and click on Open.

Step 4. Now you will be notified that Pwned DFU mode is required in order to proceed. Click OK.

Step 5. Connect your iPod touch to your computer and turn it off. Click the ‘Next’ button and then follow the on-screen instructions carefully.

“Hold down the Power (corner) button for 3 seconds”

“Without releasing the power button, also hold down the home button (bottom center) for 10 seconds.”

“Without releasing the home button, release the power button BUT KEEP holding the home button for 15 seconds.”

Step 6. You will see “Exploiting with limera1n” on your screen. Just wait…

Step 7. RedSn0w will now check for SHSH blobs, if it fails you can tell RedSn0w to look for them locally on your PC or on Cydia’s servers online by clicking on the ‘Remote’ button.

Step 8. Now RedSn0w will perform the required operation on your iPod touch 4G, and on completion will notify you that your device has been successfully restored.
