April NPD: Mortal Kombat proves violence can sell
Mortal Kombat was the top selling game in the month of April, according to NPD. It sold approximately 900K+ units(Not counting the Special Edition) and outsold it’s competitor Portal 2, which came at number 2.
Mortal Kombat is the reboot of the series which focused more on creating a close to classic gameplay feel rather then revamping the gameplay. This proved to be a huge success as we can see from the sales, it sold more then both Street Fighter 4 and Marvel VS Capcom 3 did in their first month.
Microsoft also had a successful month as the Xbox had a year to year increase of about 60%, Kinect games also continued to sell well. Kinect Sports has now sold more than 3+ million units worldwide while Dance Central is following behind with 2.5+ million sales. See the full chart below.
