How To: Check And Monitor Your Internet Bandwidth On Windows 7 Without Installing Any Software

Here is a simple and easy way to monitor your internet bandwidth. I recently got this idea after the bandwidth cap that PTCL implemented on their DSL connections. Even though it is still unconfirmed but still people have no way of monitoring their bandwidth usage. Read on to find out how to do it.

1. Download Network Meter from here or here
2. Extract it if you have downloaded the .zip version.
3. Run the .gadget file that you get after extracting, a security warning dialog box will pop up asking for confirmation. Click on “Install” to proceed.
4. Right click on your desktop and then click on Gadgets, enable Network Meter by double clicking on it.
5. In the Windows gadget sidebar, check the Network Meter gadget and go to its properties by clicking on the wrench icon below the X button.
6. In the properties, click on the “Network Interface for Speed” and select your device.

7. You now have successfully installed Network Meter, it will automatically detect if you are using a wireless or wired network connection.

Using this gadget, not only you can monitor your bandwidth, you can also check your download and upload speed. The best thing about it is that it doesn’t require anything extra and all you need is Windows 7 for it to work. It will keep track of the current bandwidth(Data used until the PC is shutdown or restarted) as well as the total bandwidth(Combined data).
