Leaked ‘Windows Gaming eXperience’ video shows cross-platform plans

A leaked internal Microsoft video allegedly provides some hints as to what the company’s Windows Gaming eXperience (WGX) team is attempting to do. The video, dug up by ZDnet, showcases what appears to be several concepts that could cross between Windows, Xbox and mobile platforms. The video is PC-focused, but features Microsoft’s Avatars moving around screens using Kinect functionality, while interacting with social games and media, along with the Avatar Marketplace.

A now-removed LinkedIn job posting reportedly described the function of the WGX Team as creating a “new world-class gaming platform” to define “the next generation of Windows and Web gaming to 300 million potential customers.”

According to ZDnet, the video was dated May 2010 — in this world of corporate ADD and division restructuring, take nothing of what you see in the clip as the gospel of Windows future according to Microsoft.

Japan Earthquake Could Affect iPad 2 Supplies

According to popular Market Research site iSuppli the recent devestating earthquakes over in Japan could cause a shortage for iPad 2 parts. iSuppli also did a deep teardown of the iPad 2 and discovered that 5 components come from Japan:

The IHS iSuppli teardown analysis of the iPad 2 so far has been able to identify five parts sourced from Japanese suppliers: NAND flash from Toshiba Corp., dynamic random access memory (DRAM) made by Elpida Memory Inc., an electronic compass from AKM Semiconductor, the touch screen overlay glass likely from Asahi Glass Co. and the system battery from Apple Japan Inc. There potentially are other components from Japan in the iPad 2, however, the teardown analysis process cannot always identify all components’ countries of origin

iSuppli also confirmed that most of these parts can be sourced from other countries as well even though all of the supplier’s factories are safe from the disaster.
