Samsung Galaxy SL Preview
Well folks we have another version of Galaxy S with us. This one is called the GT-i9003 Galaxy SL and on the outside is pretty similar to the original version of the Galaxy S but there are quite a few differences on the inside.
The phone features a 4 inch Super Clear LCD screen with a resolution of 480 x 800. It has a 1 GHz Cortex processor instead of Humming Bird and an inferior GPU compared to the original Galaxy S. The mobile feature 4/16 GB of internal storage with 478 mb RAM. The handset runs Android 2.2 Froyo and has a rumored Gingerbread update due soon. The phone has a bigger battery compared to it’s predecessor which can coupe up to 15 hours on 2G and 7.5 hours on 3G. Other than all of its specs are identical to those of the GT-i9000 Galaxy S.
You will find the handset, manual book, Charger, USB cable and an extra cover in the box (Asian regions).
The build quality and design is identical to that of Galaxy S. The body is all plastic and unfortunately still a fingerprint magnet. It has the same three buttons on the front, a volume rocker on the left, a 3.5 mm jack and micro USB port above, power button on the right, a 5.0 megapixel camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front. It features Samsung’s Touchwiz 3.0 interface. Touchwiz is an approach to people who like their screens decent and simple, the people who like to mess around would eventually get bored of the interface.
Onto the screen now which we found to be pretty good. The screen is inferior to the original Galaxy S’ Super AMOLED display, leading to a smaller viewing angle among others. The Galaxy SL can play quite a few games from the Android Market too with the help of it’s 1 GHz processor and snappy GPU.
The call clarity is top notch and we came across no signal issues. The Wi-Fi antenna on the other hand is a whole other story, the Galaxy SL occasionally drops the Wi-Fi connection even with full signals. The camera interface is really good, you can take panoramas and add loads of different effects. The picture quality was really great compared the HTC handsets though we found it inferior to iPhone 4 and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i. Samsung i9003′s camera also allows you to shoot HD (720p) videos on the go.
The phone will cost you PKR 33,800 (398$) and if you are in Pakistan or India you will find an extra hard back cover bundled with the handset absolutely free.
