  • Facebook Launches ‘Verified Accounts’ and ‘Pseudonyms’

Just like in Twitter, Celebrities will now be able to ‘Verify’ their accounts on Facebook so they can be distinguished from the imposters using their names. However, unlike twitter, the profile will not say ‘Verified’.

The public figures will be given the option to choose an alternative name (i.e a pen name etc). Then, these profile will be displayed in the ‘people to subscribe to’ section more often. The real name of the celebrity/public figure will still be shown on the timeline. Basically, this new feature is just a way to make sure people do not subscribe to the imposter by mistaking him/her to be the celebrity/public figure.

Today, Facebook users with many subscribers will be given a notification with an option to verify their identity. The alternate names (if entered) will be manually verified.

So, will you be subscribing to any celebrities/public figures after this feature becomes active? Let me know in the comments below.

  • Facebook All Set To Introduce In-Line Ads To Mobile Users Starting March

Just a few days after Facebook announced that it will be going Public by applying for a $5 Billion IPO, the social networking giant has announced that their mobile users will start getting in-line ads next month.

Not a lot of detail is public at this point but it’s suggested that users will get these ads as sponsored stories in the timelines, which I have to admit is not a bad idea. These ads will be much bearable than pop-up or sidebar ads since the mobile Facebook is cluttered as it is. Currently it’s not known whether both the Web and App versions of Facebook will be affected but we’ll find that out soon enough.

  • [How To] Make An Awesome Welcome Tab For Your Facebook Page

This will be a very simple yet elegant tutorial on how to create an awesome tab for your Facebook Page to welcome your fans. This is going to be the first thing a non-fan will see so make it count. Pages are coming with all sorts of crazy creative tabs to impress people enough to click on that magical Like button. This is one of three tutorials, here I will explain adding a simple single image welcome tab to your fanpage.

Take your favorite image editor (cough*Photoshop*cough) and create a kick-ass image for your lovely users to see, it can be as long as you want it to be (no pun intended) but the width HAS to be within 500 pixels. Some people suggest 530 px but to be on the safe side keep it within 500. Consult the awesome image below:

Once your uber-awesome image is ready, it’s time for some coding (not really).

Open up Facebook.com and search for FBML in the search box, the one you’re looking for is this one:

Click on Static FBML and add it to your page by clicking on “Add To My Page” as shown below:

Add this to the page you prefer and open up your page on Facebook, click on “Edit Page” and go to Apps on the left hand side:

In the Apps tab, go down to Static FBML and click on “Go To App” and you’ll see a panel similar to the one below, add your welcome page title in “Box Title” and a code to show the image:

The code you are going to add is the following:

    <center><img src=”IMAGE URL HERE” width=”500″></center>

Replace “IMAGE URL HERE” with a valid link to your image hosted elsewhere.

Now we want anyone who visits your page for the first time and hasn’t liked it yet to see this tab first, for that to work we need to set a new landing tab. Go back to Edit Page and open the “Manage Permissions” tab, in the “Default Landing Tab” select your newly created tab:

And that’s all there is to it! Your fresh new welcome tab is ready to be seen by your fans and non fans alike. There is an alternate to this method which uses two images to display, one for the people who have already liked you and one for the non-fans. I will write another tutorial on it soon. Do leave your comments below. Thank you for reading.

Yes you heard us right, the official iPad Facebook app has finally been released after months of waiting. You can grab the app right now from the iTunes app store.

The app looks much similar to the iPad Facebook app leaked a couple of months ago which was later blocked but some people could still access it using a Jailbreak tweak. There a couple of neat features in the iPad app you won’t get in the standard one like the ability to play Facebook games in full screen mode, view pictures in all their full resolution glory, improved navigation, HD video and Airplay suppose among others.
