  • iPhone 5 Mockup Based on Alleged Spy Shot

With the iPhone 5 release just around the corner,  the iPhone rumor mill is in full swing these days, just a few days ago an alleged photo of the iPhone 5 was released into the wild, which looked something like an iPhone 4 slim rather than the iPhone 5. The image was discredited, however here is a mockup based on that image.

  • Apple A5 Chip Pictured On iPhone 5 Logic Board

We’ve been getting quite a few pictures of the logic board of the iPhone 5 or whatever the next generation iPhone is gonna be called and today another one popped up. We still not certain though if this logic board of the bigger iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4-ish iPhone 4S.

The layout of the logic board is pretty similar to the one we saw earlier but with the addition of Apple A5 dual core processor chip which is also used in Apple’s iPad 2s. The front panel attached does seem similar to the older White iPhone 4 design Apple scrapped because the proximity sensor had issues with it, so this means that the image is likely quite old. Whether this is legit or fake we’ll fine out soon enough on the iPhone 5′s expected October release date.

  • Apple WIll Be Holding It’s iPhone 5 Media Event On-Campus

New reports suggest that Apple will be holding their next generation iPhone media event on-campus, this would be the first time that Apple is holding a launch event some other than San Francisco. This media event is where Apple is gonna reveal the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S.

Were not sure what the reason could be for Apple hosting the event at their home ground at Cupertino in California. Could it be that Apple wants newly appointed CEO Tim Cook to deliver his first keynote at their home ground, could their previous venues be already booked? We’d just have to wait and let it unfold. The media event is rumored to be held on the 4th of October.

  • Apple Proposes Plan for an Even Smaller SIM Card Standard

Last year, with the advent of the iPad and the iPhone 4, Apple introduced a new SIM-Card standard – the Micro-SIM. Reuters reports that this time around Apple has submitted a new requirement to (European telecoms standards body) ETSI for a smaller SIM form factor, even smaller than the current micro-SIM used in the iPad 1, iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

“They have done that through the standardization route, through ETSI, with the sponsorship of some major mobile operators, Orange being one of them,” said Anne Bouverot, Orange’s head of mobile services. She further went on to say that the process would take time but the devices supporting this new format could be out as early as next year.

As soon as jailbreak for A5 iDevices was released, Cydia was flooded with new tweaks for iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Let’s talk about SIRI, a digital voice assistant that was added in iOS 5 by Apple for iPhone 4S users. Jailbreaking community has added many new tweaks specially for SIRI in order to enhance voice command ability of your iPhone 4S. “OpenSiri”  is a new jailbreak tweak that allows you to open Apple stock apps plus twitter and facebook using your voice command through SIRI.

Using this tweak is really simple, you can launch your desired apps using “launch” or “open” command. For example you want to open YouTube, just invoke SIRI and say “launch youtube”. Yeah its really that easy to open your apps using “OpenSiri”.

NO settings is required by this tweak and you can find “OpenSiri” on Cydia for free under BigBoss repository.

Instructions to install this tweak are:

Step 1. Go to Cydia on your Jailbroken iPhone.

Step 2. Search for “OpenSiri” under BigBoss repository.

  • Absinthe Updated For Mac to Fix Errors

If you are one of them who have encountered errors while Jailbreaking your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 with Absinthe app on your Mac, you will be glad to hear that the Chronic Dev Team has just released an update for the Mac version of Absinthe.

You can download Absinthe 0.2 from HERE.

Following are the reasons which forced Chronic Dev Team to update Absinthe to version 0.2:

    • VPN setting.
    • iDevice not rebooting after activating.
    • White icons.

PlanetBeing (an iOS hacker who helped in developing the jailbreak) announced the update via twitter:

“…Mac version updated. v0.2: Tries to fix no reboot after activating VPN/tapping Absinthe icon. We also tried to fix white icons on SpringBoard after jailbreak.”

He also stated that even after using the new version of Absinthe you are still able to see white icons, just try installing an app from Cydia. Also if Absinthe crashes, just restart your device and try it again.

  • Siri Ported Over To The iPhone 4 Successfully, iPhone 4S Quietly Cries In The Corner

Remember Siri, the new virtual assistant exclusive to the iPhone 4S? Well it’s not so exclusive anymore and has been kinda ported over to the iPhone 4 thanks to an iOS developer by the name of Steven Troughton-Smith with help from 9to5Mac.

The port as expected still needs a lot of work as the app faces sluggish performance and a few bugs. The voice files aren’t even sent to Apple’s servers like they are suppose to.

Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has been working with 9to5Mac exclusively to port the iPhone 4S Siri voice command system to the iPhone 4. Troughton-Smith was able to get the beginning steps of a full port rolling after installing the iPhone 4S Siri and Springboard files onto an iPhone 4. As you can see in the video, Siri’s interface loads up with all the features from the iPhone 4S implementation.

Check out videos of the port in action below:
