  • Nintendo Posts Q1 Results, $220M Loss And 1.86M 3DS Sold

Nintendo has released their Q1 results and it doesn’t look good folks. They posted a total of $220 million loss for Q1 was analysts expected due to the increasing differences in currency rates.

The profitability of the “Nintendo 3DS” hardware is improving, but the hardware has been in negative margin. Therefore, although the selling, general and administrative expenses decreased compared to the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, the result was an operating loss of 10.3 billion yen,.

Nintendo will release the “Wii U” system, the successor of “Wii,” mainly in Japan, the United States and Europe at the end of this calendar year, and propose a new play style of home entertainment with its unique controller
embedding a 6.2 inch touch screen.

The company’s flagship handheld, the 3DS sold 1.86 million units, the Wii sold 700k units while the DS sold 540k units. Nintendo aims to sell 18.5 million 3DS consoles this fiscal year.

Software numbers for the 3DS look promising as they’ve sold a total of 52 million units for this quarter including 7.39 million sales for this quarter.

Hopefully for Nintendo the 3DS XL will improve these numbers even further.

  • Monolith Soft Reveals X, Could Be Xenoblade Chronicles Sequel

Monolith Soft and Nintendo revealed a brand new game codenamed X during Nintendo Direct. The game looks and plays very similarly to Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) but we’re still not sure if its a sequel as Nintendo is simply labeling it as “a new game from Monolith Soft,”. Check out the debut trailer below:

The development is led by Director and Studio Head Tetsuya Takahashi, his previous works include Xenoblade Chronicles and previous Xeno games. The Character Design is being done by Kunihiko Tanaka responsible for Xenogears (PS1) and Xenosaga Episode 1 (PS2).  The Soundtrack is being done by Japanese film, TV and anime composer veteran Hiroyuki Sawano.

Below are some screens from the trailer:

I personally think the game looks brilliant. The soundtrack, characters and world look very interesting, and don’t forget about the mechs! The game will also have multiplayer which is rare in JRPGs so it could turn out to be very promising.

  • 3DS XL To Have 1:1 Pixel Mode

Looking for reasons to buy the newly announced 3DS XL apart from the bigger screen and better battery life?  Well you would be glad to know that the bigger screens are not going to waste and will have 1:1 Pixel Mode.

url 3DS XL To Have 1:1 Pixel Mode

So what exactly is 1:1 Pixel Mode you ask? Well take normal DS games played on the 3DS for example, they never scale perfectly since the resolutions of the DS and 3DS are different i.e 256 x 192 and 400 x 240 respectively. 1:1 Pixel Mode on the 3DS XL will have perfect pixel mapping for older games (DS and Virtual Console) thanks to the bigger screens.

Technically the 3DS XL can support 1:1 Pixel Mode because of the higher dot pitch of 0.2657mm as compared to 0.1922mm of the original 3DS. The bigger the pixels the better pixel mapping you get and the better older games look.

    Thanks 3DS Tribe.

Are you still confused about Wii U, if that’s the case then this Ghost Recon Online trailer will hopefully clear it up. The Wii U controller has a touch screen interface and also has motion sensing capabilities. People were getting confused on how it will be implemented despite the demonstration given by Nintendo. Ubisoft has shown a simple technical demonstration on how they will implement Wii U controller in their game. See more after jump.

As we can see from this trailer it is quite clear that the Wii U trailer can also be used to display the in-game map. With its touch screen interface the players can issue commands easily using their voice.
