  • NPD Reports Show Xbox360 In The Lead In Sales

NDP, a research firm, has released this year’s sales numbers from the gaming industry and they are not pretty. Sales have dropped by 38 percent in the overall gaming market. One console still stands out from the rest, Xbox360 still sits firmly on the top of the sales numbers of 2011. Check out the graph below:

Microsoft said the reason behind the success of their prized console was the release of Kinect. People went crazy after the motion sensor for the 360 and it lead to an enormous increase in sales for the console itself.

Meanwhile, other consoles such as the PS3 and Wii are still falling behind. This report was shocking as PS3 saw more exclusive releases this year, Uncharted 3 being one of the major ones.

  • The Gods Will Face Asura’s Wrath In This E3 2011 Trailer

This E3 trailer details some of the story of the game. Along with fighting bosses which are even bigger then the size of Earth, we can see that we will also have to fight without our hands using only our head. This game certainly lacks promise, despite the somewhat confusing subject and a possible God of War clone, this is from developer Cyber Connect which also developed Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. It is coming soon sometimes later in 2012

  • Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 And PS3 Install Sizes Revealed

Battlefield 3 looks absolutely brilliant, DICE’s new Frostbite 2 engine is known to really push the console to their limits but for the game to look better DICE gives you the option to install high definition texture packs on to the hard drive of your console. We have now confirmed the install sizes of the games on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 thanks to gamers who got their hands of Battlefield 3 a few days early from it’s release.

Above is a shot of the Xbox 360 dashboard which clearly shows the install sizes of both the discs, 7.3GB for the single player only Disc 1 and 6.7GB for the Multiplayer only Disc 2.

Here is the back of the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 which shows that the texture pack install is just 2GB. If you were wondering why the game install sizes on both of the platforms are so different then there’s a very simple answer for you: the install works differently on both of them. The Xbox 360 allows users to install full games, while on the PS3 only a few games can be installed. In Battlefield 3′s case in the PS3 version you can only install the texture packs not the full game.

  • Versus XIII; A Fantasy that Took a Road too Ambiguous

Back in 2006 — before PlayStation 3 was still being assembled in one of those secret Sony lairs – Square Enix, upholding the long tradition of PS brand centric Final Fantasies announced the Fabula Nova Crystallis series for the much loved duo in the very near future.

How did that letter of love got lost somewhere in translation? It is hard to say. Perhaps the sweet smell of greens, the liability of investing a lot, or simply a trinket to toss over for more people to savor. The list is as endless, as it is complicated. But for now, let’s focus on where do us geeky, sore-eyed, Fantasy deprived gamers stand in this mist of FF nothingness on PS3?

For kick starting that seething anger roiling underneath our skins, we lost FF (Final Fantasy) XIII to a lot of things; Microsoft, poor planning, bland story telling, uninteresting focused or unfocused babbles, and all the other intentional nonsense stopping it from possibly becoming the crème de la crème of Fantasies. A bullet was fired, it missed, and all of us got hurt in our little hearts filled with so many fantastical hopes… the agony was unbearable.

As the sands of time passed down the hourglass, our wounds were healed, and hence we waited for the coming FF that would change the way people supposedly looked at JRPGs (Japanese Role Playing Games). But the problems of misinterpretation, misreading, and so many other misses came back to haunt us. Where is Versus XIII? Truth be told, perhaps even Nomura-San doesn’t know what he got himself into, or maybe us vile JRPG purists are exaggerating.

Years have gone by with nothing but a tiny peek at gameplay in that once-upon-a-too-long-ago trailer from Nomura. Little additions were there, and so were the horrid misses. The game (seemingly) plays a lot like Nomura’s PS2 Disney fairy tale ventures; Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, which, believe me, is the most positive sign to come out of this long fruitless wait.

Our spiky haired Noctis, who got that hair style from Nomura’s secret obsession with Sasuke Uchiha, moves sleekly across the screen, brandishing sword-like things, and throwing sparkles everywhere. Impressive that feat truly was, and so were the forceful abduction of enemy machines. The other characters seem to have their own set of arsenal, specially the blond guy with manageable hair, who can take out enemies with an accurate aim feature.

Art style is impressive, and unlike the closed, almost drab surrounds of XIII, Versus looks like it could just redeem itself of the sins of its mother. The environments are much varied. From the posh terraced party hall and the wide roofs, to the wilderness of lush jungles; at least the game will not bore you with XIII’s endless supply of dullness.

The characters don’t seem forced, or not-needed, and are of interesting kind. Noctis, your ridiculously good looking Square hero, is badass and kind of mum, donning all-black cool looking clothes is nicely contrasted by the loud blond. And the brooding genius and the gruff companion complete this team of four, each promised to have their own abilities and what not.

Usually, the brooding handsome ones are dressed in black.

Alas, if only there was more to this show and tell, but there isn’t. TGS (Tokyo Game Show) will be a no show, and god knows how many other gaming functions Nomura intends to miss. Why the aversions though? It is a bit simple. The game is shouldered on a massive budget, if executed wrongly, it could just drown SE in really deep waters. Nomura probably just wants to save his well-earned reputation.

Then there is the whole graphics slump, which could be a foreboding to something nasty, but maybe the game does look as impressive as Nomura is found to ceremoniously state a lot. But until there is no show from SE, there will be no tell, only heart-breaking rumors of multi-platforming, cancellation, and such.

Latest interviews suggest the game might have some sort of online features, like purchases for the enthusiastic buyers. Whether it is untrue or it leans towards the truth, that is still under that heavy shroud of ambiguity.

I for one, have some faith left it Nomura. What are your thoughts? Watch the video below again, just for nostalgic factors.

  • Silent Hill HD Collection And Silent Hill: Downpour New Screens Released

The PS3 exclusive Silent Hill HD Collection will contain Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 in HD. A couple of screens were released for Silent Hill HD Collection for PS3 and the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour for PS3 and Xbox 360.

These games appear to be quite dark especially Silent Hill 2, but they were quite dark from the start to begin. Silent Hill 2 has our all time favorite and scary villain Pyramid Head. Both, Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 are regarded as the best among the whole Silent Hill series.

Silent Hill: Downpour is a new game in the Silent Hill universe which will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360. There is no PC release currently planned for it. It is scheduled to be released on October 25th on both platforms.

Silent Hill HD Collection will remain PS3 exclusive, it is still unknown whether it will be released on Xbox 360. Although, it was rumored that this will be a timed exclusive and that Xbox 360 users will be able to enjoy it later. It couldn’t be highly unlikely though as Silent Hill was never exclusive to Sony platform. Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, which was a updated version of Silent Hill 2 with extra content and was released on PS2 as Greatest Hits; It was released on the original Xbox as well.

History has taught us that most Silent Hill games are just timed exclusives and they are later released for other platforms like it happened with past Silent Hill games.

Silent Hill HD Collection will be released on a unspecified date either in September or October 2011.

Below is a leaked trailer of Silent Hill HD Collection shown at Comic Con 2011.

Below are some screens from Silent Hill HD Collection and Silent Hill: Downpour.
