  • Resident Evil – Operation Racoon City Detailed in the new OXM

As we first heard late last year, Capcom is apparently putting a new twist on the Resident Evil franchise with the help of SOCOM: Confrontation dev Slant Six Games. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, a squad based shooter, is reportedly the cover story of Official Xbox Magazine’s May 2011 issue.

The issue, which StickSkills claims to have obtained from an unnamed newsstand (pictured above) that routinely sells issues early, supposedly details a game in which players take on the role of Umbrella Corporation special forces on a mission to clean up Raccoon City following the events of Resident Evil 2.

According to the site, the team will have access to “big guns” and employ a number of tricks to fool and manipulate enemies — human or otherwise. Trying to kill series hero Leon Kennedy is said to factor into the game, with the possibility of friendly forces being deployed to protect him. Operation Raccoon City is reportedly in development for Xbox 360 and PS3, and is scheduled for release this winter.

  • Sony CEO Compares Vita Launch To PS3, Says Sales Are “Acceptable”

Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) CEO Jack Tretton shared his thoughts about the state of Vita sales and the similarities between the launch of PS3, which failed to make a dominant impression at first but now sells steadily. Sony is doubtlessly hoping the fate of Vita to turn out the same.

Vita and PSP sales this year combined (of 1.4 million) are less than PSP sales alone last year (1.8 million). Sony, however, refused to elaborate on exactly how many of these 1.4 million handheld units were Vitas . ”I think there’s an acceptable number – and [the number] we’ve sold: That’s acceptable. If it was triple that, I’d be happier. If it was one-third, I’d be disappointed.”  Tretton stated.

He also noted that PS3 also got off to shaky start and while it may still not be the top selling console at the moment, it’s still doing pretty well for itself considering it’s nearing the end of a console cycle.

“Anything with great rewards is going to come with great challenges,” Tretton said. “We felt if the tech was there, and the game support was there, then the audience would be there. … I feel much better about it now than I did four months ago.”

Sony expects to sell 10 million units by the period ending on 31st March 2013 despite Vita’s rough launch. It is optimistic about its holiday lineup featuring titles like Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Call Of Duty: BlackOps Declassified and its own exclusive PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, as notable sales boosters. Sony hopes to move more eyes towards Vita with the announcement of White PS Vita bundled with Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation. The bundle will include: Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation game, a “Crystal White” PS Vita (WiFi only) and a 4GB memory card.

Jack Tretton also had a few choice words to say about social and casual games:

“[Social and free-to-play] is a business I think a lot of companies are learning is difficult to sustain for the long term. It’s an adjunct or it’s an add-on, but it’s not where gaming is headed. It’s an additive diversion. There’s a place for social and freemium, but it’s not going to replace the business models that are out there.”

Are you a proud owner of Vita? What do you think is stopping the growth of a powerful handheld? Do you believe that sales will do relatively better as more games such as Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Call Of Duty: BlackOps Declassified and more Vita-only exclusives are released? • Clockwerk, while we wait for Sly Cooper 4

Clockwerk! Sly Cooper fans everywhere know what I’m talking about. Believe me, I’ve played the big games, I’ve fought the bad final bosses. But this boss in particular left a certain mark in my mind. Playing Sly Cooper and The Thievious Racoonus was one of the most memorable time of my gaming life. I mean don’t get me wrong, I enjoy mindlessly shooting random strangers in the head and turn the floor into a bloody mass for hours and hours and then finally killing someone extremely ridiculously difficult to kill. But it’s games like Sly Cooper that always give you that sweet tingly feel when you think about them.

Fighting Clockwerk was something I will never forget, that amazing dialogue before the fight, those last words he says when you’re beating his head off. Everything from start to finish was mysterious and unnerving. Ever since the game begins, it gives off this sense of suspense for what or who the final boss would be. They reveal every other villain as the stages progress, but Clockwerk is not even shown until he appears out of nowhere to fight you! NOT EVEN A CUTSCENE BEFORE THE FIGHT! It just begins, adds more depth to the whole “what-the-heck-is-that-thing” feel.

Clockwerk is overall the most awesome villain I remember to date, he needs to be the final boss in Sly Cooper 4, somehow he needs to come back and make his fans happy! That mysterious thought of an owl actually putting robotic parts on him to live forever and kill the Cooper Clan is just cooler than cool itself! BRING CLOCKWERK BACK IN SLY 4!
